Transcriptomic characterization of circulating neutrophils isolated from patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), formerly known as nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).

ABSTRACT: Neutrophils, a major innate immune cell population, are the most abundant circulating white blood cell in humans. They play a crucial role in host defense against infection; however, aberrant neutrophil activation may induce tissue damage via sterile inflammation. Neutrophil accumulation has been identified as a feature of the inflammatory response observed MASH and has been associated with liver fibrosis and cirrhosis. In the present study, we used RNA-Seq analysis of purified neutrophils to characterize their dysregulation in MASH.
