Merkel cell formation in hairy and glabrous skin

Project description:We describe Merkel cell formation in glabrous skin during embryogenesis. In our study, we first found that Merkel cells were specified at E15.5, 24 hours later, comparing to the back skin. Interestingly, by performing lineage-tracing experiments, we found that unlike back skin, SOX9(+) cells do not give rise to Merkel cells in glabrous skin. We performed transcriptional profiling of Merkel cells of the back and glabrous skin and showed that their transcriptoms are very similar. Taken together, Merkel cells in back skin and glabrous skin are similar, and their formation is controlled by a common genetic program, although their precursor cells might differ.

INSIGHT Microbiome Study

Project description:<p>This is a study of the oral and gut microbiome of 226 mother-child dyads enrolled in the INSIGHT (Intervention Nurses Start Infants Growing on Healthy Trajectories) study. INSIGHT is a randomized, controlled trial comparing a responsive parenting intervention designed for the primary prevention of childhood obesity against a control. </p> <p>The microbiome portion of the study was designed to investigate the relationship between a cross-sectional view of the child's microbiome (at two years of age) and the patterns of growth between birth and 2 years. These first-born children were deeply studied in this time period with data collected on a wide variety of variables including mode of delivery, sex, weight and height (collected at 7 time points), medication usage, diet information, and maternal health information (gestational weight gain, gestational diabetes, smoking during pregnancy). Microbiome samples from the child (buccal swab and stool sample) and their mother (buccal swab) were collected at the child's 2-year clinical research visit. </p>

Project description:Conventional hand-stitching colostomy involves extensive hand-stitching by the surgeon. There are significant variations in the outcome of surgery due to differences in the suture techniques of surgeons. The use of a circular stapler in colostomy seems more rapid and efficient colostomy than the conventional methods.But all those reports are single center retrospective cohort study，no randomized controlled trials have been carried out so far.The aim of this study is to comparing the safety and efficiency of circular stapler-assisted colostomy with conventional hand-stitching colostomy in patients with colorectal carcinoma.

Data-dependent acquisition was employed under positive ion mode. One cohort (five subjects) was recruited and white petrolatum was applied in the dominant hand (dorsal side) of the subjects for 7 days, while the other hand was not treated (non-exposed hand).
