Project description:Due to the wide application of rare earth oxides nanoparticles in different fields, they will inevitably be released into the environment, and their potential toxicity and ecological risks in the environment have become a concern of people. Yttrium oxide nanoparticles are important members of rare earth oxides nanoparticles. The molecular mechanism of its influence on plant growth and development and plant response to them is unclear. In this study, we found that yttrium oxide nanoparticles above 2 mM significantly inhibited the growth of Arabidopsis seedlings. Using the Arabidopsis marker lines reflecting auxin signal, it was found that the treatment of yttrium oxide nanoparticles led to the disorder of auxin signal in root cells: the auxin signal in quiescent center cells and columella stem cells decreased; while the auxin signal in the stele cells was enhanced. In addition, trypan blue staining showed that yttrium oxide nanoparticles caused the death of root cells. Transcriptome sequencing analysis showed that yttrium oxide nanoparticles specifically inhibited the expression of lignin synthesis related genes, activated mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway, and enhanced ethylene and ABA signaling pathways in plants. This study revealed the phytotoxicity of yttrium oxide nanoparticles at the molecular level, and provided a new perspective at the molecular level for plants to respond to rare earth oxide stress.

The effect of CuO nanoparticles on gene expression patterns in Daphnia magna

Project description:There is still a lot of contradiction on whether metal ions are solely responsible for the observed the toxicity of ZnO and CuO nanoparticles to aquatic species. While most tests have studied nanoparticle effects at organismal levels (e.g. mortality, reproduction), effects at suborganismal levels may clarify the role of metal ions, nanoparticles and nanoparticle aggregates. In this study, the effect of ZnO, CuO nanoparticles and zinc, copper salts was tested on the gene expression levels in Daphnia magna. D. magna was exposed during 96 hours to 10% immobilization concentrations of all chemicals, after which daphnids were sampled for a differential gene expression analysis using microarray. When comparing the nanoparticle exposed daphnids (ZnO or CuO) to the metal salt exposed daphnids (zinc or copper salt), the microarray results showed no significantly differentially expressed genes. Project description:We report the genome-wide transcriptome of soybean seeds across several stages of seed development and the entire life cycle using Illumina high-throughput sequencing technology. Specifically, we profiled whole seeds containing globular-stage, heart-stage, cotyledon-stage, early maturation-stage, mid-maturation-stage, and late-maturation-stage embryos. We also profiled dry soybean seeds, and vegetative and reproductive tissues including leaves, roots, stems, seedlings, and floral buds.
