Project description:We wished to investigate if adaptation to host-plant diet is the basis of differentiation for two strains of Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera:Noctuidae). We performed reciprocal transplant experiments in laboratory conditions, feeding each strain (sf-C and sf-R) with artificial diet, corn plants or rice plants. RNA-Seq was performed on pooled 4th instar larvae from this experiment. We compared this transcriptional response with that of individual 4th instar larvae collected in corn and grass fields in Florida.

Project description:In this experiment we aimed to decipher the transcription response of rice to the different cues of an herbivory attack from the chewing caterpillar Spodoptera frugiperda. We performed a herbivory mimic procedure on seedlings and applied mechanical wounding (WOS), application of herbivore oral secretions (OS) after wounding (WOS+) and dysbiotic OS (WOS-) on rice leaves. RNA was extracted from control and treated leaves after two hours. 5 biological replicates corresponding to 5 pooled leaves were performed for each of the four condition

Project description:We report the application of whole transcriptome sequencing technology for high-throughput profiling of coding and non-coding RNAs associated with Spodoptera frugiperda feeding in Zea mays. 4,366 mRNAs and 233 lncRNAs were differentially expressed during Spodoptera frugiperda feeding in Zea mays. Our data contribute to the understanding of the function of coding and non-coding RNAs in the regulation of plant-insect interactions.
