Endocytosis mediates the cellular uptake of micronutrients and the turnover of plasma membrane proteins. Clathrin-mediated endocytosis is the major uptake pathway in resting cells<sup>1</sup>, but several clathrin-independent endocytic routes exist in parallel<sup>2,3</sup>.
