The fungal pathogen <i>Aspergillus fumigatus</i> is frequently cultured from the sputum of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients along with the bacterium <i>Pseudomonas aeruginosa. A. fumigatus</i> secretes a range of secondary metabolites, and one of these, gliotoxin, has inhibitory effects on the host immune response.
