Project description:This experiment comprises 283 CEL files generated on the Affymetrix U133 Plus 2.0 gene expression microarray platform, using patient peripheral blood and bone marrow samples from the first cohort of patients accrued to Children's Oncology Group Study AALL0232. No clinical covariate data is provided at this time as the clinical study is not yet published. Researchers who would like to request outcome or other covariate data are asked to contact Dr. Cheryl Willman, cwillman@unm.edu, 505.272.5622 (University of New Mexico) and Dr. Steven Hunger, Stephen.Hunger@childrenscolorado.org (Children's Oncology Group and Children's Hospital Colorado) to arrange a collaboration.

Oxygen induced complication of prematurity: from experimental data to prevention strategy

Project description:A prospective study was conducted in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the University Children's hospital between September 1, 2008 and November 30, 2010. The entry criteria were (1) preterm birth below 32 weeks gestational age, (2) birthweight<1500g (VLBW). During the follow-up period, bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) was diagnosed in 68 (61%) infants, including 40 (36%) children with mild disease, 13 (12%) with moderate and 15 (13%) with severe BPD. Forty-three babies served as a control group (no BPD).

Project description:There is differential expression of genes between cases and controls using microarray analysis, and genes that are crucial for host defence responses are significantly up-regulated in cases during pneumococcal infection. Affymetrix microarray technology was used to compare the levels of mRNA between cases and controls and to evaluate whether this is influenced by underlying HIV cormobidity, and if association with different disease outcomes (death vs. survival) exists.
