Project description:We report cell type specific Nova HITS-CLIP using BAC-transgenic lines expressing GFP-Nova under the motor neuron specific choline acetyltransferase (Chat) promoter. By comparing transcriptome wide Nova binding map in motor neurons and that in the whole spinal cord, we identified differential Nova binding sites in motor neurons, which correlate with motor neuron specific RNA processing.
Project description:This study explored how the omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acid ratio in low-fish oil aquafeeds influences Atlantic salmon's antiviral and antibacterial immune responses. Atlantic salmon were fed aquafeeds rich in soy oil (high in omega-6) or linseed oil (high in omega-3) for 12 weeks and then challenged with bacterial (formalin-killed Aeromonas salmonicida; Asal) or viral-like (polyriboinosinic polyribocytidylic acid; pIC) antigens. The mRNA levels of 46 immune-relevant genes in the head kidneys of the salmon were analyzed via quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR).
Project description:In this study, transcriptomics was used to investigate Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) sampled from three different field locations within Baltic Sea (Baltic Main Basin (CBS), Gulf of Finland (GoF) and Bothnian Sea (BS)) during marine migration. RNA labeling, hybridizations, and scanning were performed by the Finnish Microarray and Sequencing Centre in Turku Centre for Biotechnology.
Project description:This study was performed to investigate the effect of camelina oil-based diets on the immune function of Atlantic cod, as measured by gene expression in spleen. Atlantic cod were fed with one of three practical diets (three tanks per diet): a control diet using herring oil as a lipid source (FO diet), and two experimental diets using vegetable oil from Camelina sativa to replace 40% or 80% of herring oil (40CO and 80CO diets). We studied both the effect of the diet alone on basal spleen gene expression levels, as well as the effect of the diet after fish were injected with the synthetic double-stranded RNA polyriboinosinic polyribocytidylic acid (pIC), which mimics a viral immune stimulus.
