Feasibility, Reliability, and Satisfaction of CEA Using Home Based (Automated) Capillary Blood Sampling

Project description:The goal of this study is to determine the feasibility of CEA assessments at home using (automated) capillary sampling in patients in the follow-up after treatment for colorectal cancer. The main questions it aims to answer are: * To determine the success rate of capillary sampling at home by the patient * To assess reliability and satisfaction of (automated) capillary CEA measurements Participants will be asked to perform automated capillary sampling and lancet capillary sampling at home twice after regular check-up visits in the hospital, with an interval of 3-6 months in between. During this hospital visit, a CEA measurement in blood sampled by venipuncture will be performed to act as a reference for the CEA measurements in (automated) capillary blood to be sampled at home. Reliability of CEA measurements will be assessed for automated capillary and lancet capillary sampling compared to venipuncture. Satisfaction in terms of patient reported outcomes (pain, burden, ease of use, and preference) will be evaluated.

Sodium accumulation and blood capillary rarefaction in the skin predispose spontaneously hypertensive rats to salt sensitive hypertension.

Project description:We compared tissue Na+ storage in salt sensitive spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) versus salt resistant normotensive Brown Norway (BN) rats after salt loading (10 days drinking 1% NaCl solution), the SHR showed significant parallel increase in osmotically inactive Na+ storage in the skin while no significant changes in skin electrolyte concentrations were observed in BN rats. SHR rats after salt treatment exhibited a nonsignificant decrease in skin blood capillary number (rarefaction) while BN rats showed significantly increased skin blood capillary density. Analysis of dermal gene expression profiles in BN rats after salt treatment showed significant up-regulation of genes involved in angiogenesis and proliferation of endothelial cells contrary to the SHR.

Project description:This file contains gene microarray data from FACS purified mouse high endothelial cells and capillary endothelial cells from peripheral lymph nodes, mesenteric lymph nodes, and Peyer’s patches. The data will allow for better understanding of the specialization of high endothelial venules (HEV) and their role in lymphocyte recruitment from the blood; the tissue-specific differentiation of lymphoid tissue vasculature; and the specialized features of capillary vs. post-capillary endothelium, including differences in signaling pathways, adhesive properties and mechanisms of hemostasis.
