Project description:Cyanobacteria are ubiquitous microorganisms with crucial ecosystem functions, yet most knowledge of their biology relates to aquatic taxa. We have constructed metagenomes for 50 taxonomically well-characterized terrestrial cyanobacterial cultures. These data will support phylogenomic studies of evolutionary relationships and gene content among these unique algae and their aquatic relatives.

Project description:Microcosms made of filtered seawater innoculated with Enterococcus faecalis v583 were exposed to artificial sunlight to investigate photoinactivation mechanisms. Microcosms exposed to artificial sunlight were compared to dark controls. Three experiments were done on three separate days. During every experiment, the light and dark microcosms were samples at the begining (time = 0 hours) and then at 2, 6, 12 and 24 hours.

Rhizospheric metagenome of the terrestrial mangrove fern <i>Acrostichum</i> from Indian Sunderbans.

Project description:This study reports the analyses of the rhizospheric microbiome of the terrestrial mangrove fern Acrostichum aureum Linn. from the Indian Sunderbans. Samples were collected using standard protocols and 16S rRNA gene V3-V4 region amplicon sequencing was performed to identify the microbial communities prevalent in the rhizosphere. A total of 1,931,252 quality checked reads were assembled into 204,818 contigs and were analysed using QIIME to reveal the abundance of Proteobacteria, Acidobacteria and Planctomycetes. The data is available at the NCBI - Sequence Read Archive with accession number: SRX2660456. This is the first report of the rhizospheric microbiome belonging to a fern species.
