Project description:Printer emitted particles (PEPs)-induced cardiopulmonary adverse effects and health risks and the underlying mechanisms are unknown. The aim of this study was to perform genome-wide mRNA profiling in rat blood to identify non-invasive blood based biomarkers for medical and occupational surveillance. The rats were exposed to printer emitted particles PEPs (exposed) and high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtered air (control). Animals were sacrificed on 1, 5, 9, and 21 days for lung tissue collection.

Project description:The purpose of this study was to characterize global gene expression in human airway epithelial cells and identify cellular pathways associated with coarse, fine and ultrafine particulate matter (PM) exposures. Ambient PM was collected in 3 different size fractions from Chapel Hill air, particles were extracted from foam or filter matrices and lyophilized. Human primary airway epithelial cells were exposed to particles at 250μg/ml or vehicle control for 6h in culture. Project description:Acute phase reactants serum amyloid A-1, 3 and micro RNA-135b, -449a, and -1 are induced in lungs of mice exposed to subtoxic doses of nano-titanium dioxide particles by inhalation In the present study we investigate pulmonary mRNA and miRNA profiles of mice exposed to subtoxic dose of nano-titanium dioxide particles by inhalation. We show dramatic induction of acute phase reactants, chemoattractants, immune and host defence related genes.
