Project description:Monitoring microbial communities can aid in understanding the state of these habitats. Environmental DNA (eDNA) techniques provide efficient and comprehensive monitoring by capturing broader diversity. Besides structural profiling, eDNA methods allow the study of functional profiles, encompassing the genes within the microbial community. In this study, three methodologies were compared for functional profiling of microbial communities in estuarine and coastal sites in the Bay of Biscay. The methodologies included inference from 16S metabarcoding data using Tax4Fun, GeoChip microarrays, and shotgun metagenomics.
Project description:This study evaluates the transcriptome of Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings growing in the presence of a diversity of synthetic bacteria communities under different phosphate availability.
Project description:We have identified differentially expressed genes according to hydrostatic pressure growth conditions in Desulfovibrio piezophilus. The transcriptomic datasets report the molecular mechanisms which could be involved in such adaptation and give information for the piezophile sulfate-reducing bacteria research communities. The data obtained pointed out different responses of D. piezophilus to an increase of hydrostatic pressure.
Project description:Plants and rhizosphere microbes rely closely on each other, with plants supplying carbon to bacteria in root exudates, and bacteria mobilizing soil-bound phosphate for plant nutrition. When the phosphate supply becomes limiting for plant growth, the composition of root exudation changes, affecting rhizosphere microbial communities and microbially-mediated nutrient fluxes. To evaluate how plant phosphate deprivation affects rhizosphere bacteria, Lolium perenne seedlings were root-inoculated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa 7NR, and grown in axenic microcosms under different phosphate regimes (330 uM vs 3-6 uM phosphate). The effect of biological nutrient limitation was examined by DNA microarray studies of rhizobacterial gene expression.
Project description:Four Fe(II) concentrations (0.03, 0.09, 0.12 & 0.75 mM) were tested to investigate the stimulation and inhibition effects of ferrous iron on anammox bacterial activity. RNAs were extracted from the cultures, and the synthesized cDNAs by reverse transcription were used to carry out GeoChip analysis, by which the functional communities and expression level differences in functional genes under different Fe(II) concentrations conditions were obtained, and the response of anammox bacteria to Fe(II) stimulation and inhibition are speculated.
