Project description:Multi-dimensional genomic analysis identifies a class of breast cancer patients with high metastatic outcome and differential response to chemotherapeutic drugs The application of multi-dimensional genomic analyses might provide a more refined risk assessment of breast tumor aggressiveness and improve the selection of patients for personalized medicine. Our study demonstrates the feasibility of using CNAs to predict patient outcome. In combination with gene expression profiles, the clinical implication for such prognostic assays is the identification of breast cancer patients at different risks and sensitivities to chemotherapeutic drugs. Abstract
A type of cancer which originates from the breast tissue is referred to as breast cancer. Globally, it is the most common cause of death in women. Treatments such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, immunotherapy, and gene therapy are the main strategies in the fight against breast cancer. The present study aims at investigating the effects of the combined radiotherapy and chemotherapy as a way to treat breast cancer, and different treatment approaches are incorporated into the model. Also, the model is fitted to data on patients with breast cancer in Tanzania. We determine new treatment strategies, and finally, we show that when sufficient amount of chemotherapy and radiotherapy with a low decay rate is used, the drug will be significantly more effective in combating the disease while health cells remain above the threshold.

It has been reported that the cancer associated specific microRNAs were stably detected in blood. The objective of this study was to discover a panel of circulating microRNAs as potential ER+/HER2- breast cancer biomarkers. Methods We compared levels of circulating microRNAs in blood samples from 11 ER+/HER2- advanced breast cancer patients with age-matched 5 control subjects by using microarray-based expression profiling. We validated the level of microRNAs by real-time quantitative polymerase cycle reaction (RT-qPCR) in 40 control subjects, 180 early breast cancer patients (EBC), and 52 metastatic breast cancer patients (MBC). Then, we assessed the association between the levels of microRNA and clinical outcomes of ER+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer. Project description:The ataxia telangiectasia-mutated (ATM) gene is a moderate-risk breast cancer susceptibility gene; germline loss-of-function variants are found in up to 3% of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC) families who undergo genetic testing. So far, no clear molecular features of breast tumors occuring in ATM deleterious variant carriers have been described, but identification of an ATM-associated tumors signature may help patients' management. To characterize hallmarks of ATM-associated tumors, absolute copy number variation and loss of heterozygosity profiles were obtained from the OncoScan SNP array.
