Project description:Half-smooth tongue sole (Cynoglossus semilaevis) is a commercially valuable flatfish, ranking among the most valuable fishes in the coastal areas of China. It has an asymmetric body shape with lateralization of the eyes to the same side during metamorphosis as same as the other flatfish species. However, little is known about the function and profile of lncRNAs in the half-smooth tongue sole. In this study, we carry out a genome-wide review of lncRNAs in the fish by using large-scale deep sequencing.
Project description:Campylobacter jejuni is a widespread pathogen responsible for most of the food-borne gastrointestinal diseases in Europe. For pathogen control in the food industry, the use of natural antimicrobial molecules is a promising strategy to avoid antibiotic treatments. Isothiocyanates are natural antimicrobial compounds which also display anti-cancer activity. Several studies described the chemoprotective effect of isothiocyanates on eukaryotic cells, but the antimicrobial mechanism is still poorly understood. We investigated the early cellular response of C. jejuni to benzylisothiocyanate (BITC) by both transcriptomic and physiological (respirometry, ATP content measurements and isolations of aggregated proteins).
Project description:Over last decade several studies on oral cancer patients from eastern India have identified alterations in copy numbers in many regions of the chromosome such as 3p21.3, 8q24.21, 9p21, 9p22, 11q13, 11q21-24. However, all these studies employed microsatellite markers to map these CNV regions. This resulted in large map intervals (10-12 megabases) between the adjacent markers studied. As these regions contain a large number of genes, a high resolution CNV map of these regions was necessary to precisely identify novel genes affected by the amplifications and deletions. We thus used custom made Agilent 4X44K oligonucleotide array CGH platform to map the identified CNV regions in a resolution of 3 Kb in oral cancer patients from eastern India.
Project description:Japanese macaques learn to use rakes to acquire food, and this learning is associated with rapid electrophysiological and morphological changes in the brain. To examine the molecular mechanisms of these plastic changes, we performed comprehensive gene expression analysis with a cDNA microarray and identified many candidate genes. We compared gene expressions between experimental (Rhesus_E) and control (Rhesus_C) animals from Surrounding areas of the lateral sulcus. We also compared gene expressions between experimental (IPS_E) and control (IPS_C) animals from Surrounding areas of the Intraparietal sulcus.
