Project description:We sequenced cell-free RNA (cfRNA) for five cancer types (colorectal cancer, stomach cancer, liver cancer, lung cancer and esophageal cancer) and healthy individuals in 230 plasma samples collected from 6 clinical centers in China. Cancer related signaling pathway and microbial genus were identified. Cancer detection and specific classification were achieved through combining both host and microbial cfRNA reads.

Microbial communities being a critical player in the geochemical processes, makes it important to identify key environmental parameters that influence the community structure and its function.In this proect we study the influence of land use type and environmental parameters on the structure and function of microbial communities. The present study was conducted in an urban catchment, where the metal and pollutants levels are under allowable limits. The overall goal of this study is to understand the role of engineered physicochemical environment on the structure and function of microbial communities in urban storm-water canals. Project description:Purpose: Sox2 expression marks gastric stem and progenitor cells, raising important questions regarding the genes regulated by Sox2 and the role of Sox2 itself during stomach homeostasis and disease. The goal of this study is to determine the function of and the genes regulated by Sox2 in the stomach. Methods: Sox2 ChIP-enriched DNA and input DNA was isolated from gastric glands of adult antrum from Sox2 KO and Sox2 WT mice. DNA was purified and genomic libraries were prepared as described (Sulahian et al., 2014), using four micrograms of goat anti-SOX2 (AF2018, R&D). Libraries were sequenced (50 bp, single-end reads) on an Illumina Hi-Seq 2000 instrument. Results: Sox2 is dispensiable for gastric stem cell self-renewal and epithelial homeostasis, however modulates the expression of wnt, intestinal and cancer related genes Examination of Sox2 targets in the stomachs of Sox2 WT and Sox2 KO mice.

Project description:The Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) genome contains 10 chitinase encoding genes, but little is known about the function of these chitinases. Three of the chitinase genes have previously been shown to be expressed in the stomach tissue of Atlantic salmon. In the current study we show that the protein products of these genes, the family 18 glycoside hydrolase (GH18) chitinases, Chia.3, Chia.4 and Chia.7 are secreted into the stomach mucosa and are amongst the most abundant proteins in this matrix.
