Project description:Small organisms can be used as biomonitoring tools to assess chemicals in the environment. Chemical stressors are especially hard to assess and monitor when present as complex mixtures. Here, Daphnia magna were exposed for 24 hours to five different munitions constituents 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT), 2,4-dinitrotoluene (2,4-DNT), 2,6-dinitrotoluene (2,6-DNT), trinitrobenzene (TNB), dinitrobenzene (DNB), or 1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazacyclohexane (RDX) as well as to 8 different munitions mixtures and ground water contaminated with munitions constituents. To better understand possible mixture effects, gene expression changes from all treatments were compared using high-density microarrays. While mixtures and ground water exposures had genes and gene functions in common with single chemical exposures, unique functions were also affected, which was consistent with the non-additivity of chemical effects in these mixtures. The study consisted of three different experiments: (1) exposure to a concentration corresponding to 70% of 1/10th of the LC50 value of six individual MCs (TNT, 2,4-DNT, 2,6-DNT, DNB, TNB, RDX) and a control; (2) exposure to eight different laboratory mixtures of the previously mentioned MCs. Different combinations of MCs including four mixtures (Mixtures 5, 6, 7 and 8) representative of field collected groundwater from LAAP (Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant) were created; and (3) exposure to MC-contaminated ground water field-collected from 3 different wells (85, 108, and 141) at the LAAP. All exposures were conducted for 24h.

Project description:This study examined the effects of a heating system using a ground source geothermal heat pump (GHP). A GHP was installed in a pig house, and a comparative analysis was performed between the GHP and the control (conventional heating system) in terms of the production performance, housing environment, noxious gas emissions, electricity consumption, and economics. The geothermal system performance index, such as the coefficient of performance (COP), inlet, and outlet temperature, were also evaluated. The outflow temperature during each period (weaning, growing, and finishing) was significantly higher than the inflow temperature in all three components of the GHP system. Similarly, the average internal temperature of the GHP-connected pig house was increased (p < 0.05) during each period. The carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration, electricity usage, and cost of electricity during the 16-week experimental period were reduced significantly in the GHP system relative to the control. The concentrations of ammonia (NH3) during the growing and finishing period and the concentrations of formaldehyde during the weaning phase were also lower in the GHP-installed pig house (p < 0.05). These results indicate that the GHP system can be used as an environmentally friendly renewable energy source in pig houses for sustainable pig production without harming the growth performance.

For this project, iBench was applied to Percolator rescored results from Mascot searches from a tryptic digestion of the K562 proteome, HLA-I immunopeptidome experiment, and synthetic peptide libraries. Here we provide the Mascot search results which were benchmarked as well as the original searches used to generate the ground truth identifications. These search results were generated by reprocessing RAW data from the PXD031709, PXD034056 and PXD031812 repositories.
Project description:To investigate changes in cardiac transcription profiles caused by off-pump cardiac surgery, we collected myocardial samples, prior and after grafting, from patients undergoing off-pump coronary revascularization surgery. The transcriptional profile of the mRNA in these samples was measured with gene array technology.
