Project description:The accessory gland (AG), an important component of the male reproductive system, enhances the fertility of spermatozoa during male reproduction. Some AG proteins are known to bind to the spermatozoa membrane and affect its function and properties. In this study, we describe, for the first time, a comprehensive catalog of proteins of the AG secreted fluid during the mature phase of the Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis). AG secreted proteins were separated by one-dimensional gel electrophoresis and analyzed by reverse phase high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS).
Project description:The transcriptome profiling five tissues of juvenile Eriocheir sinensis, including gill, muscle, thoracic ganglion, eyestalk and hepatopancreas, were sequenced to get the basic dataset for constructed a genome-scale metabolic network model for E. sinensis. The model was used to predict the optimal nutrient requirements of E. sinensis in feed and suggestions for feed improvement were put forward based on the simulation results.
Project description:As representatives of n-6 and n-3 fatty acids, many studies have analyzed the use of soybean oil and linseed oil rich in linoleic acid (18:2n-6, LA) and α-linolenic acid (18:3n-3, LNA) as better substitutes for fish oil. In aquatic animals, different dietary ratios of LA and LNA could have significant effects on growth, lipid metabolism, immune response, and reproduction. To assess the nutritive value of these two fatty acids for the Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis), we performed transcriptome analysis and proteomic analysis using label-free quantification of the hepatopancreas of mitten crabs fed with LA or LNA diet. Our results provide new insights for further investigation into the replacement of fish oil from mitten crabs with vegetable oils and enable us to better understand the different roles and nutrition value of LA and LNA in mitten crabs.
