Manda2019 - Acute hepatitis B virus infection model within the host incorporating immune cells and cytokine response


ABSTRACT: This is a within-host hepatitis B viral mathematical model for hepatitis B in the acute phase of infection. The model incorporates hepatocytes, hepatitis B virus, immune system cells and cytokine dynamics using a system of ordinary differential equations.

Increasing susceptibility of the elderly to many infectious diseases is highly associated with the loss or delay in the generation of antigen-specific CD4(+) T cells. For Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection, where antigen-specific CD4(+) T cell derived IFN-gamma is essential, such a loss can lead to a significant failure to control infection.
