Transcription profiling of Populus balsamifera developmental tissue series


ABSTRACT: This study examined the transcriptome level attributes of a variety of Populus balsmifera tissues and organs. The tissues include seedlings grown under three light regimes, young leaves, mature leaves, roots, differentiating xylem, female catkins, and male catkins. Experiment Overall Design: In total 27 samples were analysed including 9 tissues with 3 biological replicates for each tissue. The samples were hybridised to the Affymetrix GeneChip Poplar Genome Array.

The R2R3-MYB proteins comprise one of the largest families of transcription factors in plants. R2R3-MYB family members regulate plant-specific processes, such as the elaboration of specialized cell types, including xylem, guard cells, trichomes, and root hairs, and the biosynthesis of specialized branches of metabolism, including phenylpropanoid biosynthesis.
