Expression data from indole deficient E.coli (MG1655∆tnaA) exposed to indole and norfloxacin during continuous culture

ABSTRACT: We sought to determine the effect of indole on cells under antibiotic stress. To determine the effects of indole during norfloxacin treatment, we continuously cultured MG1655_delta_tnaA and exposed the culture to three conditions: 1. initial exposure to norfloxacin, 2. exposure to indole and norfloxacin, and 3. reexposure to norfloxacin

ORGANISM(S): Escherichia coli str. K-12 substr. MG1655

Bacteria show remarkable adaptability in the face of antibiotic therapeutics. Resistance alleles in drug target-specific sites and general stress responses have been identified in individual end-point isolates. Less is known, however, about the population dynamics during the development of antibiotic-resistant strains. Here we follow a continuous culture of Escherichia coli facing increasing levels of antibiotic and show that the vast majority of isolates are less resistant than the population a  ...[more]
