RNA-seq of S. Typhimurium bloodstream isolates following exposure to serum versus LB broth controls
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: The aim of this experiment was to gain mechanistic insights into the natural variation in antibody sensitivity phenotypes of invasive S. Typhimurium strains. The specific objectives were to identify differentially regulated genes that distinguish between gene expression during growth in serum and standard laboratory conditions, identify bacterial growth requirements for growth and survival in serum, and identify factors that enable resistant bacteria to circumvent host defences in serum. Transcriptional changes of six S. Typhimurium bloodstream isolates from Malawian patients, three of which were resistant to bactericidal antibody and complement in serum, were assayed and compared by RNA-seq.
INSTRUMENT(S): Illumina HiSeq 2000
