Transcription profiling of Drosophila melanogaster females head+thorax vs abdomen organism parts and high mating pressure vs low mating pressure to investigate the genomic transcriptional signature of mating costs
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: In this study we examined the genomic transcriptional signature of mating costs in female fruitflies in which mating rate was elevated 3-4 fold. We conducted 4-fold biological replication and randomly sampled cohorts of females before the major mortality effects of the elevated mating appeared (to avoid the potentially biasing effects of lineage selection). We then assayed differential gene expression, in two different body parts (abdomen versus head+thorax), using genome wide microarrays.
