Improving video surveillance systems in banks using deep learning techniques.

ABSTRACT: In the contemporary world, security and safety are significant concerns for any country that wants to succeed in tourism, attracting investors, and economics. Manually, guards monitoring 24/7 for robberies or crimes becomes an exhaustive task, and real-time response is essential and helpful for preventing armed robberies at banks, casinos, houses, and ATMs. This paper presents a study based on real-time object detection systems for weapons auto-detection in video surveillance systems. We propose an early weapon detection framework using state-of-the-art, real-time object detection systems such as YOLO and SSD (Single Shot Multi-Box Detector). In addition, we considered closely reducing the number of false alarms in order to employ the model in real-life applications. The model is suitable for indoor surveillance cameras in banks, supermarkets, malls, gas stations, and so forth. The model can be employed as a precautionary system to prevent robberies by implying the model in outdoor surveillance cameras.

Searching for the ground state of complex spin-ice systems using deep learning techniques.

Project description:Searching for the ground state of a given system is one of the most fundamental and classical questions in scientific research fields. However, when the system is complex and large, it often becomes an intractable problem; there is essentially no possibility of finding a global energy minimum state with reasonable computational resources. Recently, a novel method based on deep learning techniques was devised as an innovative optimization method to estimate the ground state. We apply this method to one of the most complicated spin-ice systems, aperiodic Penrose P3 patterns. From the results, we discover new configurations of topologically induced emergent frustrated spins, different from those previously known. Additionally, a candidate of the ground state for a still unexplored type of Penrose P3 spin-ice system is first proposed through this study. We anticipate that the capabilities of the deep learning techniques will not only improve our understanding on the physical properties of artificial spin-ice systems, but also bring about significant advances in a wide range of scientific research fields requiring computational approaches for optimization.

State-of-the-art violence detection techniques in video surveillance security systems: a systematic review.

Project description:We investigate and analyze methods to violence detection in this study to completely disassemble the present condition and anticipate the emerging trends of violence discovery research. In this systematic review, we provide a comprehensive assessment of the video violence detection problems that have been described in state-of-the-art researches. This work aims to address the problems as state-of-the-art methods in video violence detection, datasets to develop and train real-time video violence detection frameworks, discuss and identify open issues in the given problem. In this study, we analyzed 80 research papers that have been selected from 154 research papers after identification, screening, and eligibility phases. As the research sources, we used five digital libraries and three high ranked computer vision conferences that were published between 2015 and 2021. We begin by briefly introducing core idea and problems of video-based violence detection; after that, we divided current techniques into three categories based on their methodologies: conventional methods, end-to-end deep learning-based methods, and machine learning-based methods. Finally, we present public datasets for testing video based violence detectionmethods' performance and compare their results. In addition, we summarize the open issues in violence detection in videoand evaluate its future tendencies.

Magnetic Hamiltonian parameter estimation using deep learning techniques.

Project description:Understanding spin textures in magnetic systems is extremely important to the spintronics and it is vital to extrapolate the magnetic Hamiltonian parameters through the experimentally determined spin. It can provide a better complementary link between theories and experimental results. We demonstrate deep learning can quantify the magnetic Hamiltonian from magnetic domain images. To train the deep neural network, we generated domain configurations with Monte Carlo method. The errors from the estimations was analyzed with statistical methods and confirmed the network was successfully trained to relate the Hamiltonian parameters with magnetic structure characteristics. The network was applied to estimate experimentally observed domain images. The results are consistent with the reported results, which verifies the effectiveness of our methods. On the basis of our study, we anticipate that the deep learning techniques make a bridge to connect the experimental and theoretical approaches not only in magnetism but also throughout any scientific research.

Improving ultrasound video classification: an evaluation of novel deep learning methods in echocardiography.

Project description:Echocardiography is the commonest medical ultrasound examination, but automated interpretation is challenging and hinges on correct recognition of the 'view' (imaging plane and orientation). Current state-of-the-art methods for identifying the view computationally involve 2-dimensional convolutional neural networks (CNNs), but these merely classify individual frames of a video in isolation, and ignore information describing the movement of structures throughout the cardiac cycle. Here we explore the efficacy of novel CNN architectures, including time-distributed networks and two-stream networks, which are inspired by advances in human action recognition. We demonstrate that these new architectures more than halve the error rate of traditional CNNs from 8.1% to 3.9%. These advances in accuracy may be due to these networks' ability to track the movement of specific structures such as heart valves throughout the cardiac cycle. Finally, we show the accuracies of these new state-of-the-art networks are approaching expert agreement (3.6% discordance), with a similar pattern of discordance between views.

Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis and classification using deep learning techniques

Project description:Alzheimer’s disease is an incurable neurodegenerative disease that affects brain memory mainly in aged people. Alzheimer’s disease occurs worldwide and mainly affects people aged older than 65 years. Early diagnosis for accurate detection is needed for this disease. Manual diagnosis by health specialists is error prone and time consuming due to the large number of patients presenting with the disease. Various techniques have been applied to the diagnosis and classification of Alzheimer’s disease but there is a need for more accuracy in early diagnosis solutions. The model proposed in this research suggests a deep learning-based solution using DenseNet-169 and ResNet-50 CNN architectures for the diagnosis and classification of Alzheimer’s disease. The proposed model classifies Alzheimer’s disease into Non-Dementia, Very Mild Dementia, Mild Dementia, and Moderate Dementia. The DenseNet-169 architecture outperformed in the training and testing phases. The training and testing accuracy values for DenseNet-169 are 0.977 and 0.8382, while the accuracy values for ResNet-50 were 0.8870 and 0.8192. The proposed model is usable for real-time analysis and classification of Alzheimer’s disease.

Skin Cancer Detection: A Review Using Deep Learning Techniques.

Project description:Skin cancer is one of the most dangerous forms of cancer. Skin cancer is caused by un-repaired deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) in skin cells, which generate genetic defects or mutations on the skin. Skin cancer tends to gradually spread over other body parts, so it is more curable in initial stages, which is why it is best detected at early stages. The increasing rate of skin cancer cases, high mortality rate, and expensive medical treatment require that its symptoms be diagnosed early. Considering the seriousness of these issues, researchers have developed various early detection techniques for skin cancer. Lesion parameters such as symmetry, color, size, shape, etc. are used to detect skin cancer and to distinguish benign skin cancer from melanoma. This paper presents a detailed systematic review of deep learning techniques for the early detection of skin cancer. Research papers published in well-reputed journals, relevant to the topic of skin cancer diagnosis, were analyzed. Research findings are presented in tools, graphs, tables, techniques, and frameworks for better understanding.

Improving SWATH-MS analysis by Deep-learning

Project description:To be able to reliably generate theoretical libraries that can be used in SWATH experiments, we developed a prediction framework, deep-learning for SWATH analysis (dpSWATH), to improve the sensitivity and specificity of data generated by Q-TOF mass spectrometers. The theoretical library built by dpSWATH allowed us to increase the identification rate of proteins and peptides compared to traditional or library-free methods. Especially, the in-silico library built based on the transcriptome scale identified the most proteins while kept a similar FDR as DDA library. Based on our analysis we conclude that dpSWATH is superior in predicting libraries that can be used for SWATH-MS measurements compared to other algorithms that are based on Orbitrap data.

Improving variant calling using population data and deep learning.

Project description:Large-scale population variant data is often used to filter and aid interpretation of variant calls in a single sample. These approaches do not incorporate population information directly into the process of variant calling, and are often limited to filtering which trades recall for precision. In this study, we develop population-aware DeepVariant models with a new channel encoding allele frequencies from the 1000 Genomes Project. This model reduces variant calling errors, improving both precision and recall in single samples, and reduces rare homozygous and pathogenic clinvar calls cohort-wide. We assess the use of population-specific or diverse reference panels, finding the greatest accuracy with diverse panels, suggesting that large, diverse panels are preferable to individual populations, even when the population matches sample ancestry. Finally, we show that this benefit generalizes to samples with different ancestry from the training data even when the ancestry is also excluded from the reference panel.

Survival prediction of glioblastoma patients using modern deep learning and machine learning techniques.

Project description:In this study, we utilized data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database to predict the glioblastoma patients' survival outcomes. To assess dataset skewness and detect feature importance, we applied Pearson's second coefficient test of skewness and the Ordinary Least Squares method, respectively. Using two sampling strategies, holdout and five-fold cross-validation, we developed five machine learning (ML) models alongside a feed-forward deep neural network (DNN) for the multiclass classification and regression prediction of glioblastoma patient survival. After balancing the classification and regression datasets, we obtained 46,340 and 28,573 samples, respectively. Shapley additive explanations (SHAP) were then used to explain the decision-making process of the best model. In both classification and regression tasks, as well as across holdout and cross-validation sampling strategies, the DNN consistently outperformed the ML models. Notably, the accuracy were 90.25% and 90.22% for holdout and five-fold cross-validation, respectively, while the corresponding R2 values were 0.6565 and 0.6622. SHAP analysis revealed the importance of age at diagnosis as the most influential feature in the DNN's survival predictions. These findings suggest that the DNN holds promise as a practical auxiliary tool for clinicians, aiding them in optimal decision-making concerning the treatment and care trajectories for glioblastoma patients.
