<i>Gigantothrips</i> is a genus of leaf-feeding species from the Old World tropics that is distinguished from <i>Gynaikothrips</i> and <i>Leeuwenia</i> by the large number of tergal wing-retaining setae. Eight species are recognized from China and Southeast Asia including <i>G.tibetanus</i><b>sp. nov.</b> from Tibet and <i>G.yunnanensis</i><b>sp. nov.</b> from Yunnan, both taken on the leaves of <i>Ficus</i> trees.
