ABSTRACT: The genus Meiothrips Priesneris reviewed, with Meiothrips fuscicrussp. n., and Meiothrips nepalensis Kudo & Ananthakrishnan recorded and described from China, and a key provided to the five known species. COI sequences of the new species and Meiothrips nepalensis are also provided.

In addition, Psalidothrips consimilis Okajima, previously known only from Ryukyu Islands, Japan, is newly recorded in China.

Project description:A new urothripine species, Baenothrips cuneatussp. n., is described from China. This is distinguished from its congeners by the following combination of characteristics: dorsal surface of head having a wedge-shaped reticulation extending from median to the posterior margin; antennal segments VII-VIII is closely joined with a complete suture; the mesoacrotergite strongly constricted in the middle; abdominal tergite I divided into 5 plates; width of membranous gap between ovispan on abdominal sternite IX approximately 1/3 of the apical width of segment IX.

Project description:Podothrips species occur on the leaves of various Poaceae, including bamboo and grasses. An illustrated identification key is given here to the six Podothrips species recorded from China. Project description:Haplothrips herajius sp. n. is described from leaves and flowers of a species of Suaeda in the south of Fars Province, Iran. This is the second Iranian species of Haplothrips with the unusual character state of extra setae on the metanotum. Information on variation in color and structure of the new species is provided. The similarities and host plant associations of this new species and Haplothrips kermanensis are discussed,as both are phytophagous on species of Chenopodiaceae.

Siamothrips balteus, a new species of Scirtothrips genus-group from China (Thysanoptera, Thripidae).

Project description:The third species of the genus Siamothrips Okajima, Siamothrips balteussp. n., is described from China. The new species is characterised by the abdominal tergite II uniformly brown, III-VII with a brown area medially but pale on lateral thirds, tergite VIII smooth medially, tergite X with 3-4 rows of microtrichia medially, and abdominal sternite VII with one pair of discal setae laterally. A key to the three species has been constructed and is presented here.

Project description:A key to six species of Anaphothrips known from China is provided, together with distribution information. Anaphothrips dentatussp. n. is described and illustrated from Sanjiang Plain in northeastern China, based on one male and five apterous females. This species is unusual in having the posterior margin of tergite VIII with a craspedum of small teeth rather than long microtrichia.

Project description:An illustrated key is provided to the 19 genera of the subfamily Idolothripinae from China, and a checklist given to 62 named species, of which six species are newly recorded from China, together with the genus Bolothrips that is represented by two un-named species. A generic diagnosis is given for each genus, along with some discussion of systematic relationship problems and species diversity. Identification keys to species of 11 genera are provided, and Megathrips antennatus Guo, Feng & Duan is considered as a new synonymof Megathrips lativentris (Heeger).
