Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia and the cause of thromboembolic events in elderly patients worldwide. AF is associated with a significantly increased risk of morbidity and mortality due to cardiac emboli, primarily from left atrial appendage (LAA) thrombus.
