Peptide nucleic acid (PNA) oligomers targeted to guanine quadruplex-forming RNAs can be designed in two different ways. First, complementary cytosine-rich PNAs can hybridize by the formation of Watson-Crick base pairs, resulting in hybrid PNA-RNA duplexes.
