Using a Kastle-Meyer (KM) technique, the following equipment from the emergency departments of six UK hospitals (four trusts) and three regional ambulance services was tested for blood contamination: extrication ("spinal") boards, cervical collars, straps, box splints, head blocks, and headboards.
