DNA vaccines that encode encephalitogenic sequences in tandem can protect from subsequent experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis induced with the corresponding peptide. The mechanism for this protection and, in particular, if it is specific for the amino acid sequence encoding the vaccine are not known.
