ABSTRACT: The Rh(I)-catalyzed inter- and intramolecular [2+2+2] cyclization of diynes with alpha,beta-unsaturated enones proceeds with microwave promotion in good yields. This chemistry was applied to the synthesis of (-)-alcyopterosin I.

Project description:Homogeneous gold catalysts are interesting as they can act as potent carbophilic Lewis acids to activate the ? bonds of alkynes, allenes, and alkenes. Many impressive applications for the formation of C-C or C-heteroatom bonds have been found due to the excellent functional group compatibility of these catalysts and the air and moisture tolerance of their reactions. Here, we have developed gold-catalyzed novel intramolecular cycloisomerizations of nitrogen or oxygen-tethered cyclopropenes with propargylic esters. The reaction proceeded through different pathways according to different substituent styles, affording 5-azaspiro[2.5]oct-7-enes and bicyclo[4.1.0]heptanes.

Project description:A novel and efficient phosphine-catalyzed intramolecular cyclization of α-nitroethylallenic esters is reported. This process appears to be practical for the stereoselective syntheses of (Z)-furan-2(3H)-one oxime derivatives in excellent yields. Mechanistically, the reaction involves a phosphine-catalyzed Michael addition of an alkylideneazinate and rearrangement of the cyclic nitronate to the α-nitrosodihydrofuran.

Project description:An interesting silver(I)-catalyzed, one-pot intramolecular cyclization of epoxide-propargylic esters is described. A variety of 1,4-oxazine derivatives were obtained through a novel domino sequence, including three-membered ring-opening, 3,3-sigmatropic rearrangement, 6-exo-cycloisomerization and subsequent intramolecular elimination in moderate yields under mild conditions.

Project description:Rh(III) catalysts can promote a formal (4 + 2) intramolecular oxidative annulation between acrylic or benzoic acid derivatives and alkynes. The reaction, which involves a C-H activation process, allows for a rapid assembly of appealing bicyclic pyran-2-ones and tricyclic isocoumarin derivatives in moderate to good yields. The α-pyrone moiety of the products provides for further manipulations to obtain relatively complex cyclic skeletons in a very simple manner.

Intramolecular hydroamination of unbiased and functionalized primary aminoalkenes catalyzed by a rhodium aminophosphine complex.

Project description:We report a rhodium catalyst that exhibits high reactivity for the hydroamination of primary aminoalkenes that are unbiased toward cyclization and that possess functional groups incompatible with more electrophilic hydroamination catalysts. The rhodium catalyst contains an unusual diaminophosphine ligand (L1) that binds to rhodium in a ?(3)-P,O,P mode. The reactions catalyzed by this complex typically proceed at mild temperatures (room temperature to 70 °C) and occur with primary aminoalkenes lacking substituents on the alkyl chain that bias the system toward cyclization, with primary aminoalkenes containing chloride, ester, ether, enolizable ketone, nitrile, and unprotected alcohol functionality, and with primary aminoalkenes containing internal olefins. Mechanistic data imply that these reactions occur with a turnover-limiting step that is different from that of reactions catalyzed by late-transition-metal complexes of Pd, Pt, and Ir. This change in the turnover-limiting step and resulting high activity of the catalyst stem from favorable relative rates for protonolysis of the M-C bond to release the hydroamination product versus reversion of the aminoalkyl intermediate to regenerate the acyclic precursor. Probes of the origin of the reactivity of the rhodium complex of L1 imply that the aminophosphine groups lead to these favorable rates by effects beyond steric demands and simple electron donation to the metal center.

Intramolecular Hydrogen Transfer Reactions Catalyzed by Pentamethylcyclopentadienyl Rhodium and Cobalt Olefin Complexes: Mechanistic Studies.

Project description:The mechanism of intramolecular transfer dehydrogenation catalyzed by [Cp*M(VTMS)2] (1, M=Rh, 2, M=Co, Cp* = C5Me5, VTMS = vinyltrimethylsilane) complexes has been studied using vinyl silane protected alcohols as substrates. Deuterium-labeled substrates have been synthesized and the regioselectivity of H/D transfers investigated using 1H and 2H NMR spectroscopy. The labeling studies establish a regioselective pathway consisting of alkene directed α C-H activation, 2,1 alkene insertion, and finally β-hydride elimination to give silyl enol ether products.

Rhodium-Catalyzed Stereoselective Intramolecular [5 + 2] Cycloaddition of 3-Acyloxy 1,4-Enyne and Alkene.

Project description:The first rhodium-catalyzed intramolecular [5 + 2] cycloaddition of 3-acyloxy 1,4-enyne and alkene was developed. The cycloaddition is highly diastereoselective in most cases. Various cis-fused bicyclo[5.3.0]decadienes were prepared stereoselectively. The chirality in the propargylic ester starting materials could be transferred to the bicyclic products with high efficiency. Electron-deficient phosphine ligand greatly facilitated the cycloaddition. Up to three new stereogenic centers could be generated. The resulting diene in the products could be hydrolyzed to enones, which allowed the introduction of more functional groups to the seven-membered ring.
