Bacteria mostly live as multicellular communities, although they are unicellular organisms, yet the mechanisms that tie individual bacteria together are often poorly understood. The adhesin involved in diffuse adherence (AIDA-I) is an adhesin of diarrheagenic Escherichia coli strains.
