Regulation of membrane lipid composition is crucial for many aspects of cell growth and development. Lipins, a novel family of phosphatidate (PA) phosphatases that generate diacylglycerol (DAG) from PA, are emerging as essential regulators of fat metabolism, adipogenesis, and organelle biogenesis.
