ABSTRACT: In the title complex, [Co(C(7)H(5)O(3))(C(27)H(27)N(7))]ClO(4)·1.5C(3)H(7)NO, the Co(II) ion is five-coordinated by four N atoms from a tris-(N-methyl-benzimidazol-2-ylmeth-yl)amine (Mentb) ligand and one O atom from a salicylate ligand in a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry with approximate mol-ecular C(3) symmetry. The perchlorate ion is disordered over two sites with equal occupancy. One dimethyl-formamide solvent mol-ecule lies on a general position and is disordered over two coplanar orientations with equal occupancy. A second dimethyl-formamide mol-ecule is disordered about a twofold rotation axis. There is an intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bond in the cation.

The tris-(1-methyl-1H-benzimidazol-2-ylmeth-yl)amine (Mentb) ligand coordinates in a tetra-dentate mode and the coordination is completed by a bis-chelating salicylate ligand and a dimethyl-formamide ligand. The hy-droxy group and the ortho H atoms of the salicylate ligand were refined as disordered over two sites with occupancies of 0.581?(8) and 0.419?(8). Both disorder components of the hy-droxy group form intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The title compound, [Co(C13H9N2O2)2]·1.5C3H7NO, is formed as a neutral Co(II) complex with di-methyl-formamide (DMF) solvent mol-ecules. The Co(II) atom has a distorted O2N4 octa-hedral coordination sphere defined by two tridentate anionic Schiff base ligands with the O atoms being cis. The coordination sphere around the Co(II) atom is geometrically different from that reported for the co-crystal [Co(C13H9N2O2)2]·AA·H2O (AA is anthranilic acid). One of the DMF solvent mol-ecules was modelled as being disordered about a crystallographic inversion centre with half-occupancy. The crystal structure is made up from alternating layers of complex mol-ecules and DMF mol-ecules parallel to (010). C-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions between the complex mol-ecules and the solvent mol-ecules consolidate the crystal packing.

The central N atom of the dicyanamide ligand is disordered over two sites in an approximately 0.6:0.4 ratio.
