ABSTRACT: The structure of the title salt, C(12)H(12)N(+)·HSeO(4) (-), consists of infinite parallel two-dimensional planes built of 4-benzyl-pyridinium and hydrogen selenate ions that are mutually connected by strong O-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen bonds. There are no contacts other than normal van der Waals inter-actions between the layers.

Project description:There are two cations and two anions in the asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(5)H(6)N(3)O(2) (+)·HSeO(4) (-). In the crystal, there are two independent chains of HSeO(4) (-) anions running along the a axis, linked by O-H?O hydrogen bonds. Ribbons of cations linked by N-H?O hydrogen bonds run along the b-axis direction, and are further hydrogen bonded to the anions by N-H?O and C-H?O links, generating a three-dimensional network.

Project description:All non-H atoms of the cation of the title salt, C(6)H(5)N(2) (+)·HSO(4) (-), are essentially coplanar [r.m.s. deviation = 0.005?(1)?Å] . In the crystal, N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonds and weak C-H?O and C-H?N inter-actions link the mol-ecules into a two-dimensional network parallel to the (001) plane. Weak ?-? stacking inter-actions between the pyridine rings of neighbouring mol-ecules further stabilize the structure [centroid-centroid distance = 3.785?(1)?Å].

The crystal structure is further stabilized by additional N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds involving the second amino H atoms, as well as C-H⋯O contacts, forming a three-dimensional network.
