ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(11)H(12)N(4)O(4), was synthesized by the reaction of (2,4-dinitro-phen-yl)hydrazine with cyclo-penta-none. The cyclo-pentyl fragment is disordered over two sites with occupancies of 0.63?(1) and 0.37?(1). An intra-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bond helps to establish the conformation. Pairs of mol-ecules are held together by ?-? inter-actions between adjacent benzene rings [centroid-to-centroid distance 3.589?(2)?Å].

Project description:The title compound, C(13)H(16)N(4)O(4), is a new hydrazone. An intra-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bond generates a six-membered ring, producing an S(6) ring motif. The nitro groups in the ortho and para positions are almost coplanar with the benzene ring to which they are bound, making dihedral angles of 0.60?(11) and 3.18?(11)°, respectively. Pairs of inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds link neighbouring mol-ecules into inversion dimers with R(2) (2)(10) motifs. The crystal structure is further stabilized by inter-molecular ?-? inter-actions, with a benzene centroid-to-centroid distance of 3.6601?(4)?Å.

A polymorph of 2,4-dinitro-phenyl-hydrazine.

Project description:The crystal structure of a previously unreported polymorph (form II) of 2,4-dinitro-phenyl-hydrazine (DNPH), C6H6N4O4, was determined at 90?K. The first polymorph (form I) is described in the monoclinic space group P21/c [Okabe et al. (1993 ?). Acta Cryst. C49, 1678-1680; Wardell et al. (2006 ?). Acta Cryst. C62, o318-320], whereas form II is in the monoclinic space group Cc. The mol-ecular structures in forms I and II are closely similar, with the nitro groups at the 2- and 4-positions being almost coplanar with the benzene ring [dihedral angles of 3.54?(1) and 3.38?(1)°, respectively in II]. However, their packing arrangements are completely different. Form I exhibits a herringbone packing motif, whereas form II displays a coplanar chain structure. Each chain in form II is connected to adjacent chains by the inter-molecular inter-action between hydrazine NH2 and 2-nitro groups, forming a sheet normal to (101). The sheet is stabilized by N-H?? inter-actions.

Project description:In the title compound, C(13)H(9)ClN(4)O(4), there are two crystallographically independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit, which have very similar conformations. The C=N-N angles in each independent mol-ecule are 115.0 (2) and 116.6 (2)°, which are significantly smaller than the ideal value of 120° expected for sp(2)-hybridized N atoms. This is probably a consequence of repulsion between the nitro-gen lone pairs and the adjacent N-N bonds. Two bifurcated intra-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds help to establish the mol-ecular conformation and consolidate the crystal packing.

It is prepared by the reaction of benzaldehyde 2,4-dinitro-phenyl-hydrazone with nitric oxide at ambient temperature. The imine group is nearly coplanar with the (2,4-dinitro-phen-yl)-hydrazine unit. The second benzene ring and the third nitro group are twisted away from this plane, with dihedral angles of 48.5 (3) and 15.2 (3)°, respectively. Weak intra-molecular N-H⋯O inter-actions are observed.

Crystal packing is stabilized by N-H?O hydrogen bonds, weak C-H?O and C-H?F inter-molecular inter-actions and centroid-centroid ?-ring stacking inter-actions.

Project description:In the title mol-ecule, C(15)H(14)N(4)O(4), the dihedral angle between the two benzene rings is 2.21 (7)°. An intra-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bond generates an S(6) ring motif. The mean planes of the ortho- and para-nitro groups make dihedral angles of 2.17 (17) and 2.05 (16)°, respectively, with the benzene ring to which they are attached. In the crystal structure, weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds generate R(2) (2)(7), R(2) (2)(13) and R(2) (1)(10) ring motifs, linking symmetry-related mol-ecules into extended chains along the b axis. In the crystal, molecules are linked via pairs of N-H⋯S hydrogen bonds forming inversion dimers.

An intra-molecular N-H⋯N hydrogen bond [graph-set motif S(5)] is present in the N-N-C-N chain between the ring systems. An intra-molecular C-H⋯S contact also occurs. In the crystal, pairs of mol-ecules form centrosymmetric dimers through N-H⋯S hydrogen bonds [graph-set R 2 (2)(8)]. These dimers are connected by C-H⋯S inter-actions with an R 2 (2)(14) motif.
