ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Ni(C(6)H(2)N(2)O(4))(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)]·1.25H(2)O, contains two independent chemically identical Ni(II) complex cations and two and a half solvent water mol-ecules. The Ni(II) ions are in slightly distorted coordination environments. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular O-H?O and weak C-H?O hydrogen bonds link cations and water mol-ecules into a three-dimensional network. One of the three uncoordinated water molecules is half-occupied.

Project description:The title compound, [Ni(H(2)O)(6)][Ni(3)(C(7)H(3)NO(4))(4)(H(2)O)(4)]·8H(2)O, was obtained by the reaction of nickel(II) nitrate hexa-hydrate with pyridine-2,6-dicarb-oxy-lic acid (pydcH(2)) and 1,10-phenanothroline (phen) in an aqueous solution. The latter ligand is not involved in formation of the title complex. There are three different Ni(II) atoms in the asymmetric unit, two of which are located on inversion centers, and thus the [Ni(H(2)O)(6)](2+) cation and the trinuclear {[Ni(pydc)(2)](2)-?-Ni(H(2)O)(4)}(2-) anion are centrosymmetric. All Ni(II) atoms exhibit an octa-hedral coordination geometry. Various inter-actions, including numerous O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds and C-O?? stacking of the pyridine and carboxyl-ate groups [3.570?(1), 3.758?(1) and 3.609?(1)?Å], are observed in the crystal structure.

Project description:In the title compound, {[Ca(3)Eu(2)(C(7)H(3)NO(4))(6)(H(2)O)(12)]·10.5H(2)O}(n), the Eu(III) ion is nine-coordinated by three tridentate pyridine-2,6-dicarboxyl-ate (PDA) ligands, forming a [Eu(PDA)(3)](3-) building block. The Ca(2+) ions adopt two types of coordination geometries. One Ca(2+) ion, lying on a twofold rotation axis, is eight-coordinated by four carboxyl-ate O atoms from four PDA ligands and four water mol-ecules, and the other two Ca(2+) ions, each lying on an inversion center, are six-coordinated by two carboxyl-ate O atoms from two PDA ligands and four water mol-ecules. The carboxyl-ate groups bridge the Eu(III) and Ca(2+) ions into a three-dimensional porous framework, with channels extending along [010] and [001] in which lattice water mol-ecules are located. Two of the lattice water mol-ecules are disordered over two sets of sites with equal occupancy and one water mol-ecule is 0.25-occupied. Numerous O-H?O hydrogen bonds involving the water mol-ecules and carboxyl-ate O atoms are present.

Each Ni(II) ion has a distorted square-pyramidal environment, with the basal plane formed by three O [Ni-O = 1.9290?(16)-1.9588?(10)?Å] and one N [Ni-N = 1.9828?(18)?Å] atoms and the apical position occupied by the water mol-ecule [Ni-O = 2.2643?(11)?Å]. The water mol-ecules are involved in the formation of O-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:In the title compound, [Ni(C(12)H(6)N(2)O(4))(H(2)O)(4)]·2H(2)O, obtained from a basic solution of 2,2'-bipyridine-5,5'-dicarboxyl-ate and nickel(II) chloride in water, the central Ni(II) cation (site symmetry 2) is coordinated by two N atoms from the 2,2'-bipyridine-5,5'-dicarboxyl-ate ligand and four aqua O atoms. The N-Ni-N angle is 78.64?(8)°. Weak but significant ?-? stacking inter-actions exist between the pyridine rings with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.652?(8)?Å. In addition, four O atoms of the two carboxyl groups form hydrogen bonds with both coordinated and uncoordinated water mol-ecules, forming an infinite three-dimensional network.

Both the cationic and anionic portions of the starting proton-transfer compound are involved in the complexation. The Ni(II) atom has a distorted octa-hedral geometry and is hexa-coordinated by three O atoms and three N atoms from one phen fragment (as a bidentate ligand), one (pydc)(2-) unit (as a tridentate ligand) and one water mol-ecule. In the crystal structure, extensive O-H?O, O-H?N and C-H?O hydrogen bonds with D?A distances ranging from 2.573?(2) to 3.385?(2)?Å, ?-? inter-actions between the phen ring systems [with centroid-centroid distances of 3.4694?(12), 3.4781?(11) and 3.8310?(11)?Å] and inter-molecular C-O?? inter-actions [C?? distances of 3.4812?(17), 3.5784?(16) and 3.5926?(16)?Å] connect the various components together.

The anion bears two nine-coordinate Ce(III) ions, each with a distorted tricapped trigonal-prismatic geometry. In the crystal, inter-molecular C-H⋯O, N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, as well as π-π inter-actions with centroid-centroid distances of 3.514 (3) Å connect the various components into a supra-molecular structure.
