ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(20)H(10)Cl(6)O(2), a quinone derivative, was obtained by the irradiation of 2,3,5,6-tetra-chloro-benzo-quinone and 4,4'-(ethene-1,1-di-yl)bis-(chloro-benzene). The six- and four-membered rings are fused in a cis configuration. The dihedral angle between them is 53.4?(3)°.

Project description:The title compound, C(18)H(20)O(4), was synthesized by the reaction of 4-methoxy-benzaldehyde, 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane-4,6-dione and 5,5-dimethyl-cyclo-hexane-1,3-dione with triethyl-benzyl-ammonium chloride in water as a green solvent. In the mol-ecule of the title compound, the six-membered pyran-one ring of the hexa-hydro-coumarin system has a screw-boat conformation while that of the dimethyl-cyclo-hexenone system has a distorted envelope conformation. Project description:The title compound 1-exo (with minor amounts of its C8 epimer 1-endo) was prepared by Wolff-Kishner reduction of the cycloadduct of 1,3-cyclohexadiene and cyclopropylketene. The [1,3]-migration product 2-endo was synthesized by efficient selective cyclopropanation of endo-5-vinylbicyclo[2.2.2]oct-2-ene at the exocyclic ?-bond. Gas phase thermal reactions of 1-exo afforded C8 epimerization to 1-endo, [1,3]- migrations to 2-exo and 2-endo, direct fragmentation to cyclohexadiene and vinylcyclopropane, and CPC rearrangement in the following relative kinetic order: kep > k13 > kf > kCPC.

Project description:Gold(I) catalysts effectively promote the Cope rearrangement of acyclic 1,5-dienes bearing a terminal cyclopropylidene. When this methodology is applied to cyclic substrates an unexpected transformation occurs, resulting in the formation of a tricyclic compound incorporating a bicyclo[4.2.0]oct-1-ene core, a portion of which is found in a number of natural products. Density functional theory calculations (M06 and M06-2X) reveal insight into the mechanism and thermodynamics of this unique transformation.

Project description:The title compound, C16H8Cl4O2, crystallizes with two independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. Both mol-ecules have a Z conformation around the central double bond and they show significantly different C-C-C-O torsion angles between the aromatic ring and the carbonyl group [30.1?(7) and 3.9?(7)° in one molecule and 23.5?(7) and 9.3?(8)° in the other]. The crystal packing shows short halogen Cl?O [3.003?(5) and 3.246?(4)?Å] and Cl?Cl [3.452?(2)?Å] contacts and aromatic C-H?Cl and C-H?O inter-actions link the molecules, resulting in chains propogating along [100]. The crystal structure also features ?-? stacking inter-actions between aromatic units of the two independent mol-ecules, with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.9264?(6)?Å.

The isoindole-dione ring system is almost planar [maximum atomic deviation = 0.036 (3) Å], and is twisted with respect to the florobenzene ring, making a dihedral angle of 58.56 (16)°. Weak inter-molecular C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonding is present in the crystal structure.
