ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(13)H(14)N(2)·2C(8)H(6)O(5), which crystallized in the monoclinic C2/c space group, the 1,3-bis-(4-pyrid-yl)propane mol-ecules and 2-hydr-oxy-1,4-benzene-dicarboxylic acid mol-ecules are alternately linked by O-H?N and O-H?O hydrogen bonds into herringbone/zigzag chains.

Project description:A new cadmium(II) coordination polymer, {[Cd(C(8)H(4)O(4))(C(12)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)]·0.5C(8)H(6)O(4)}(n), has been synthesized under hydro-thermal conditions. The asymmetric unit contains one Cd(II) atom, one benzene-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate anion, one 1,10-phenanthroline ligand, one coordinated water mol-ecule and half of an uncoordinated benzene-1,4-dicaboxylic acid solvent mol-ecule. The Cd(II) atom is in the centre of a monocapped distorted octa-hedron made up of four O atoms of two chelating benzene-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate anions, one water O atom and two 1,10-phenanthroline N atoms. The metal centres are connected via bis-chelating benzene-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate anions into a zigzag chain structure along [001]. These chains are further connected by O-H?O hydrogen bonds between the water mol-ecules and adjacent carboxyl-ate O atoms. Additional O-H?O hydrogen bonding between the uncoordinated benzene-1,4-dicaboxylic acid mol-ecules along [010] consolidates the structure.

Project description:In the title adduct, 2C(18)H(14)N(4)·C(8)H(6)O(4), the centrosymmetric 1,4-benzene-dicarboxylic acid mol-ecule makes two O-H?·N hydrogen bonds to adjacent 10,11,12,13-tetra-hydro-4,5,9,14-tetra-azadibenzo[a,c]anthracene (TTBT) mol-ecules. Aromatic ?-? stacking inter-actions occur between TTBT rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.570?(3)?Å], leading to a two-dimensional supra-molecular structure in the crystal.

Crystal structures of sodium-, lithium-, and ammonium 4,5-di-hydroxy-benzene-1,3-di-sulfonate (tiron) hydrates.

Project description:The solid-state structures of the Na+, Li+, and NH4+ salts of the 4,5-di-hydroxy-benzene-1,3-di-sulfonate (tiron) dianion are reported, namely disodium 4,5-di-hydroxy-benzene-1,3-di-sulfonate, 2Na+·C6H4O8S22-, μ-4,5-di-hydroxy-benzene-1,3-di-sulfonato-bis-[aqua-lithium(I)] hemihydrate, [Li2(C6H4O8S2)(H2O)2]·0.5H2O, and di-ammonium 4,5-di-hydroxy-benzene-1,3-di-sulfonate monohydrate, 2NH4+·C6H4O8S22-·H2O. Inter-molecular inter-actions vary with the size of the cation, and the asymmetric unit cell, and the macromolecular features are also affected. The sodium in Na2(tiron) is coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral environment through the sulfonate oxygen and hydroxyl oxygen donors on tiron, as well as an inter-stitial water mol-ecule. Lithium, with its smaller ionic radius, is coordinated in a distorted tetra-hedral environment by sulfonic and phenolic O atoms, as well as water in Li2(tiron). The surrounding tiron anions coordinating to sodium or lithium in Na2(tiron) and Li2(tiron), respectively, result in a three-dimensional network held together by the coordinate bonds to the alkali metal cations. The formation of such a three-dimensional network for tiron salts is relatively rare and has not been observed with monovalent cations. Finally, (NH4)2(tiron) exhibits extensive hydrogen-bonding arrays between NH4+ and the surrounding tiron anions and inter-stitial water mol-ecules. This series of structures may be valuable for understanding charge transfer in a putative solid-state fuel cell utilizing tiron.

Project description:The title coordination polymer, {[Cd(C8H4O4)(C14H14N4)]·C3H7NO} n , was synthesized by solvothermal reaction of metallic cadmium with the semi-rigid neutral ligand 1,4-bis-[(1H-imidazol-1-yl)meth-yl]benzene (bix) and the V-shaped benzene-1,3-di-carb-oxy-lic acid (m-H2bdc). The structure exhibits a pseudo-C-centring which is almost fulfilled by the polymeric metal complex but not by the solvent dimethylform-amide (DMF) mol-ecules. The asymmetric unit contains two independent Cd(II) ions, two m-bdc(2-) ligands, one and two half bix ligands, and two solvent DMF mol-ecules. The Cd(II) ions are both five-coordinated by three O atoms from two different m-bdc(2-) ligands and two N atoms from two different bix ligands in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. The m-bdc(2-) ligands adopt a chelate-monodentate coordination mode, connecting neighboring Cd(II) ions into a zigzag chain parallel to [110]. Adjacent chains are further cross-linked by bix ligands, giving rise to a puckered sheet nearly perpendicular to the chain direction. Thus, each Cd(II) ion is connected to four neighboring Cd(II) ions through two m-bdc(2-) anions and two bix ligands, giving rise to the final non-inter-penetrating uninodal layer with sql (4,4) topology.

These bpe and 1,3-H(2)BDC mol-ecules are linked by classical O-H?N hydrogen bonds, forming an extended one-dimensional zigzag chain. Each chain is further linked with neighboring ones by ?-? inter-actions between the pyridine and aromatic rings [centroid-centroid distances = 3.9306?(15)?Å] and the pyridine rings of pairs of symmetry-related mol-ecules [centroid-centroid distances = 3.5751?(15), 3.7350?(15) and 3.6882?(15)?Å], with the formation of a three-dimensional supra-molecular framework.
