ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(8)H(4)Br(2)O(4)·2H(2)O, contains one half-mol-ecule of 2,5-dibromo-terephthalic acid (DBTA) and one water mol-ecule. The DBTA mol-ecule is centrosymmetric. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules, forming a three-dimensional framework.

Project description:The title compound, C(8)H(6)O(6)·2H(2)O, was obtained by accident within a project on the synthesis of metal-organic coordination polymers by the reaction of LiOH with 2,5-dihy-droxy-terephthalic acid under solvothermal conditions. The asymmetric unit consists of half a 2,5-dihy-droxy-terephthalic acid mol-ecule located on a centre of inversion and one solvent water mol-ecule that occupies a general position. The 2,5-dihy-droxy-terephthalic acid mol-ecules are connected to the water mol-ecules via O-H?O hydrogen bonding to form a layer in the ab plane.

Crystal structure of 2,5-di-hydroxy-terephthalic acid from powder diffraction data.

Project description:The crystal structure of anhydrous 2,5-dhy-droxy-terephthalic acid, C8H6O6, was solved and refined using laboratory X-ray powder diffraction data, and optimized using density functional techniques. The published structure of 2,5-di-hydroxy-terephthalic acid dihydrate was also optimized. The carb-oxy-lic acid groups form strong hydrogen bonds, which form centrosymmetric rings with graph set R 2 2(8). These hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into chains along [011]. There is an intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond between the hydroxyl group and the carbonyl group of the carb-oxy-lic acid. The hydrogen bonding in the dihydrate is very different. Although the intra-molecular hy-droxy/carb-oxy-lic acid hydrogen bond is present, the water mol-ecule acts as an acceptor to the carb-oxy-lic acid and a donor to two other oxygen atoms. The carb-oxy-lic acid groups do not inter-act with each other directly.

Project description:In the title compound, C(9)H(8)Br(2)O, the cyclo-pentene ring adopts an envelope conformation with the brominated C atom as the flap. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by strong O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into zigzag C(4) chains along [010]. In addition, a C-H⋯π inter-action involving the benzene ring and the H atom attached to the hy-droxy-lated C atom is observed.

The mol-ecule is essentially planar, with a maximum deviation from the best plane of the non-H atoms of 0.054?(2)?Å for the O atoms. The but-oxy group adopts a fully extended all-trans conformation. Project description:The title compound, C8H4Br2O4·C2H6O2, crystallizes with one-half of a 2,5-di-bromo-terephthalic acid (H2Br2tp) mol-ecule and one-half of an ethyl-ene glycol (EG) mol-ecule in the the asymmetric unit. The whole mol-ecules are generated by application of inversion symmetry. The H2Br2tp mol-ecule is not planar, with the di-bromo-benzene ring system inclined by a dihedral angle of 18.62?(3)° to the carb-oxy-lic group. In the crystal, the H2Br2tp and EG mol-ecules are linked into sheets propagating parallel to (01) through O-H?O hydrogen bonds, thereby forming R 4 4 (12) and R 4 4 (28) graph-set motifs. Br?O and weak ?-? stacking inter-actions are also observed. Hirshfeld surface analysis was used to confirm the existence of these inter-actions.

Enzymatic Preparation of 2,5-Furandicarboxylic Acid (FDCA)-A Substitute of Terephthalic Acid-By the Joined Action of Three Fungal Enzymes.

Project description:Enzymatic oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) and its oxidized derivatives was studied using three fungal enzymes: wild-type aryl alcohol oxidase (AAO) from three fungal species, wild-type peroxygenase from Agrocybe aegerita (AaeUPO), and recombinant galactose oxidase (GAO). The effect of pH on different reaction steps was evaluated and apparent kinetic data (Michaelis-Menten constants, turnover numbers, specific constants) were calculated for different enzyme-substrate ratios and enzyme combinations. Finally, the target product, 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA), was prepared in a multi-enzyme cascade reaction combining three fungal oxidoreductases at micro-scale. Furthermore, an oxidase-like reaction is proposed for heme-containing peroxidases, such as UPO, horseradish peroxidase, or catalase, causing the conversion of 5-formyl-2-furancarboxylic acid into FDCA in the absence of exogenous hydrogen peroxide.
