ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(13)H(12)Cl(2)O(5), is an isocoumarin compound which has been isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of the fermentation broth of actinomycete Streptomyces sp. (V(4)) from the South China Sea. There are intra- and inter-molecular hydrogen bonds and halogen bonds [Cl?Cl = 3.434?(2)?Å; C-Cl?Cl = 121.6°]. The intermolecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds link mol-ecules into chains along the b axis.

Project description:The title compound, C(27)H(47)NO(3), is a (3-hydroxy-prop-yl)amide derivative of naturally occurring enanti-opure lithocholic acid (3?-hydr-oxy-5?-cholan-24-oic acid). The mol-ecule contains four fused rings: three six-membered rings in chair conformations and one five-membered ring in a half-chair form. The two terminal six-membered rings are cis-fused, while other rings are trans-fused. The structure contains an intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bond and a similar hydrogen-bond framework to the corresponding deoxy-cholic and chenodeoxy-cholic acid derivatives. Inter-molecular O-H?O and N-H?O inter-actions are also present in the crystal. This compound seems to have at least two polymorphic forms from a comparison of the X-ray powder pattern simulated from the present structure of the title compound and that previously obtained for the powder sample.

Project description:In the mol-ecule of 6,8-dimeth-oxy-3-methyl-1H-isochromen-1-one, C12H12O4, (I), the two meth-oxy groups are directed anti with respect to each other. In the mol-ecule of the brom-inated derivative, 5-bromo-6,8-dimeth-oxy-3-methyl-1H-isochromen-1-one, that crystallized as a chloro-form monosolvate, C12H11BrO4·CHCl3, (II·CHCl3 ), the meth-oxy groups are directed syn to each other. In the crystal of I, mol-ecules are linked by bifurcated C-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming chains along the c-axis direction. The chains are linked by C-H?? inter-actions, forming a supra-molecular framework. In the crystal of II·CHCl3 , mol-ecules are linked by C-H?O hydrogen bonds forming 21 helices parallel to the b-axis direction. The chloro-form solvate mol-ecules are linked to the helices by C-H?O(carbon-yl) hydrogen bonds. The helices stack up the c-axis direction and are linked by offset ?-? inter-actions [inter-centroid distance = 3.517?(3)?Å], forming layers parallel to the (100) plane. Compound II·CHCl3 was refined as a two-component twin. Two chlorine atoms of the chloro-form solvate are disordered over two positions and were refined with a fixed occupancy ratio of 0.5:0.5.

Intra- and inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds stabilize the crystal structure.
