ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(11)H(9)NO(2), was prepared by a condens-ation reaction of 2-hydr-oxy-1-naphthaldehyde with hydroxyl-ammonium chloride in refluxing ethanol. An intra-molecular O-H?N hydrogen bond is observed. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen-bond inter-actions result in a two-dimensional network.

Intra-molecular O-H?N hydrogen bonding generates an S(6) ring motif. In the crystal structure, ?-? inter-actions are observed involving the isoxazole ring and the substituted benzene ring of the naphthyl unit, with centroid-centroid distances of 3.5200?(10)?Å.

Project description:In the title complex, [Cu(C(18)H(14)NO)(2)], the Cu(II) ion lies on a crystallographic inversion centre and is bonded to the O- and N-donor atoms of the two bidentate chelate 1-[(o-tol-yl)imino-meth-yl]-2-naphtho-late ligands in a trans arrangement. The distorted square-planar geometry about Cu(II) has normal dimensions, with Cu-O = 1.8881 (15) Å and Cu-N = 1.9804 (17) Å.

Rep.45, 945-950], is inter-preted as a zwitterionic compound. There are two independent zwitterions in the asymmetric unit. Five of the six hydr-oxy groups of the -CH(2)OH fragments are disordered. In one zwitterion, two are disordered over three sites [0.53 (1):0.33 (1):0.14 (1) and 0.65 (1):0.18 (1):0.17 (1)] and the third over two sites [0.66 (1):0.34 (1)]. In the second zwitterion, two are disordered over two sites [0.84 (1):0.16 (1) and 0.83 (1):0.17 (1)] and the third hydr-oxy group is ordered.
