ABSTRACT: The quinuclidinium cation of the title compound, C(7)H(14)NO(+)·Cl(-), shows a twist along the C-N pseudo-threefold axis, with N-C-C-C torsion angles of -16.0?(1), -16.9?(1) and -15.6?(1)°. The crystal structure is stabilized by N-H?Cl and O-H?Cl hydrogen bonds, forming infinite chains along the a and b axes.

Project description:The title compound, C(12)H(17)FNO(+)·Cl(-), is a degradation impurity of paroxetine hydro-chloride hemihydrate (PAXIL), an anti-depressant belonging to the group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Similar to the paroxetine hydro-chloride salt with protonation having taken place on the basic piperidine ring, the degradation impurity also exists as the hydro-chloride salt. The cyclic six-membered piperidinium ring adopts a chair conformation with the hydroxy-methyl and 4-fluoro-phenyl groups in the equatorial positions. The ions form a tape along the b axis through charge-assisted N(+)-H⋯Cl(-) hydrogen bonds; these tapes are connected by O-H⋯Cl(-) hydrogen bonds along the a axis.

Quinuclidinium salt ferroelectric thin-film with duodecuple-rotational polarization-directions.

Project description:Ferroelectric thin-films are highly desirable for their applications on energy conversion, data storage and so on. Molecular ferroelectrics had been expected to be a better candidate compared to conventional ferroelectric ceramics, due to its simple and low-cost film-processability. However, most molecular ferroelectrics are mono-polar-axial, and the polar axes of the entire thin-film must be well oriented to a specific direction to realize the macroscopic ferroelectricity. To align the polar axes, an orientation-controlled single-crystalline thin-film growth method must be employed, which is complicated, high-cost and is extremely substrate-dependent. In this work, we discover a new molecular ferroelectric of quinuclidinium periodate, which possesses six-fold rotational polar axes. The multi-axes nature allows the thin-film of quinuclidinium periodate to be simply prepared on various substrates including flexible polymer, transparent glasses and amorphous metal plates, without considering the crystallinity and crystal orientation. With those benefits and excellent ferroelectric properties, quinuclidinium periodate shows great potential in applications like wearable devices, flexible materials, bio-machines and so on.

Stabilization of Ferroelectric Phase in Highly Oriented Quinuclidinium Perrhenate (HQReO4) Thin Films.

Project description:The low-temperature processability of molecular ferroelectric (FE) crystals makes them a potential alternative for perovskite oxide-based ferroelectric thin films. Quinuclidinium perrhenate (HQReO4) is one such molecular FE crystal that exhibits ferroelectricity when crystallized in an intermediate temperature phase (ITP). However, bulk HQReO4 crystals exhibit ferroelectricity only for a narrow temperature window (22 K), above and below which the polar phase transforms to a non-FE phase. The FE phase or ITP of HQReO4 should be stabilized in a much wider temperature range for practical applications. Here, to stabilize the FE phase (ITP) in a wider temperature range, highly oriented thin films of HQReO4 were prepared using a simple solution process. A slow evaporation method was adapted for drying the HQReO4 thin films to control the morphology and the temperature window. The temperature window of the intermediate temperature FE phase was successfully widened up to 35 K by merely varying the film drying temperature between 333 and 353 K. The strategy of stabilizing the FE phase in a wider temperature range can be adapted to other molecular FE materials to realize flexible electronic devices.
