ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(7)H(4)Br(2)O(2), exhibits a layer packing structure via weak ?-? stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances between adjacent aromatic rings are 4.040?(8) and 3.776?(7)?Å]. Mol-ecules in each layer are linked by inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonding and Br?Br inter-actions [3.772?(4)?Å]. There are two mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit.

The structure comprises a Schiff base unit and a water mol-ecule of crystallization. The dihedral angle between the benzene rings in the Schiff base is 1.3 (3)°. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked through inter-molecular O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, with the water mol-ecule serving as both donor and acceptor. As a result, layers are formed, which are approximately parallel to the bc plane.

Project description:In the asymmetric unit of the title hydrazone compound, C(15)H(10)Br(2)N(2)O(4), there are two independent mol-ecules. In each mol-ecule, the five-membered ring adopts a flattened envelope conformation; the flap atoms are displaced by 0.114?(2) and 0.219?(2)?Å from the planes of the other four atoms. In one mol-ecule the dihedral angle between the two benzene rings is 22.8?(2)°, while in the other it is 40.8?(2)°. Each mol-ecule displays an E configuration with respect to the C=N bond. In both mol-ecules, intra-molecular O-H?N hydrogen bonds are observed. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked through inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming chains along the a axis.

An intra-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bond is observed. In the crystal structure, pairs of adjacent Schiff base mol-ecules are linked by two methanol mol-ecules through inter-molecular N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.
