ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(4)H(12)NO(+)·Cl(-), contains two independent ion pairs. Weak intra-molecular C-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen bonds result in the formation of three five-membered rings, which have envelope conformations. The crystal structure contains intermolecular O-H?Cl, N-H?O, N-H?Cl and O-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Redetermination of 1-carboxy-cyclo-hexan-1-aminium chloride.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, C(7)H(14)NO(2) (+)·Cl(-), was reported previously [Chacko, Srinivasan & Zand (1975 ?). J. Cryst. Mol. Struct.5, 353-357] from Weissenberg photographic data with R = 0.113. It has now been redetermined, providing a significant increase in the precision of the derived geometric parameters, viz. mean ?(C-C) = 0.003?Å in the present work compared with 0.021?Å for the previous work. The complete cation is generated by crystallographic mirrror symmetry, with three C atoms, two O atoms and the N atom lying on the reflecting plane; the chloride anion also has m site symmetry. The crystal structure is established by a two-dimensional network of O-H?Cl and N-H?Cl hydrogen bonds, generating C(1) (2)(4) and C(1) (2)(7) chains, and R(2) (4)(8) and R(2) (4)(14) rings.

The meth-oxy group is approximately in-plane with the benzene ring, with a C-O-C-C torsion angle of -2.91?(18)°. In the crystal, the cations and chloride anions are connected by N-H?Cl and C-H?Cl hydrogen bonds, forming a layer parallel to the bc plane. A C-H?? inter-action further links the layers.

Project description:The title compound, C(8)H(20)N(+)·Cl(-)·H(2)O, has been prepared by a simple one-pot synthesis route followed by anion exchange using resin. In the crystal structure, the cations are packed in such a way that channels exist parallel to the b axis. These channels are filled by the anions and water mol-ecules, which inter-act via O-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds [O⋯Cl = 3.285 (3) and 3.239 (3) Å] to form helical chains. The cations are involved in weak inter-molecular C-H⋯Cl and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The title compound is not isomorphous with the bromo or iodo analogues.
