ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(22)H(15)NO(3)S, the plane of the carbazole ring system forms a dihedral angle of 65.06?(4)° with the naphthalene ring system. In the crystal structure, a weak intra-molecular C-H?O inter-action is observed between the naphthalene ring system and the sulfonate group. Two weak inter-molecular C-H?O inter-actions are also observed.

Project description:The title compound, C(14)H(9)N, is the second crystallographically characterized example of an ynamine with an H atom in the C-terminal position. There are two independent mol-ecules (A and B) in the asymmetric unit. The structures of both mol-ecules are essentially planar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.0312 and 0.0152?Å). The N-C(sp) bond lengths are 1.353?(4) and 1.350?(4)?Å, and those of the acetyl-ene bonds are 1.189?(4) and 1.190?(4)?Å. The C(sp)-H bond lengths are 0.95?(5) and 0.97?(4)?Å. These geometries are consistent with those of the previously reported ynamine characterized by crystallography. In the crystal, the mol-ecules stack along the c axis, forming two kinds of columnar structures. The acetyl-ene C atoms of mol-ecule A have a short contact [3.341?(4)?Å and 3.396?(4)?Å] with an adjacent mol-ecule A at the C-C bond of the fused part, which originates in ?-? stacking inter-action; no remarkable spatial contact is recognized within the stacking of mol-ecule B.

Project description:The title mol-ecule, C(15)H(13)NO, approximates a planar conformation except for the alkyl chain (ethyl group) bonded to the N atom with a maximum deviation from the least-squares plane through the 15 planar atoms of 0.120?(2)?Å for the O atom. The distance of the formyl O atom from the plane of the carbazole ring is 0.227?(2)?Å. The N-C bond lengths in the central ring are significantly different, reflecting the electron-withdrawing properties of the aldehyde group. As a consequence, charge transfer may occur from the carbazole N atom to the substituted benzene ring.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title compound, C(20)H(23)Br(2)N, the octyl chains are extended in an anti conformation and form a segregating bilayer, isolating rows of carbazole units. The carbazole moieties are engaged in offset ?-? inter-actions; the smallest centroid-to-centroid distance is 4.2822?(11)?Å. This offset packing motif allows the methyl-ene group attached directly to the N atom to be involved in two short C-H?? inter-actions (H?centroid distances = 2.96 and 2.99?Å) with an adjacent carbazole. One of the Br atoms also participates in a short contact [3.5475?(3)?Å] with a symmetry-related (-x, 1 - y, -z) Br atom. This value is significantly smaller than the sum of the van der Waals radii for bromine (3.70?Å).
