ABSTRACT: In the title mononuclear complex, [MnCl(2)(C(18)H(13)N(3)O)(CH(4)O)], the Mn(II) ion assumes a distorted octa-hedral geometry. There is a ?-? stacking inter-action between the phenanthroline ligand and the pyridine ring of a neighboring complex [centroid-to-centroid distance 3.5518?(13)?Å]. The crystal structure also contains weak inter-molecular O-H?Cl hydrogen bonds that link neighboring complex mol-ecules into a one-dimensional chain along the b axis.

Project description:The title complex, [Mn(2)(C(8)H(7)O(3))(4)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)]·0.5CH(3)OH, is a carboxyl-ate-bridged dinuclear Mn(II) complex with four phenoxy-acetate ions and two 1,10-phenanthroline mol-ecules as ligands. Each of the four phenoxy-acetate anions bridges the pair of Mn atoms. The asymmetric unit is completed by a half-occupancy methanol solvent mol-ecule. Face-to-face π-π stacking inter-actions between the aromatic rings of 1,10-phenanthroline molecules belonging to adjacent Mn(2) complexes, with an inter-planar separation of circa 3.4 Å, and weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds connect the dinuclear units into a three-dimensional supra-molecular framework.

Project description:The title complex, [Mn(C(5)O(5))(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)], lies across a crystallographic twofold axis which passes through the Mn atom and bisects the croconate ligand. The two 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) ligands are arranged in a propeller manner and the local mol-ecular geometry of the MnN(4)O(2) unit is severely distorted octa-hedral. This may be inter-preted as a structural perturbation of the MnN(4) square by the croconate ligand. In the crystal structure, the dipole moments of the mol-ecules are arranged alternately along the +b and -b directions. All the phen ligands are involved in π stacking inter-actions, alternately along the [110] and [10] directions. The alternate spacings between the neighbouring phen planes in the one-dimensional π stacks are 3.361 (2) and 3.526 (2) Å.

Each Mn(II) atom is five-coordinated by two N atoms of a 1,10-phenanthroline ligand and three O atoms of two nitrates within a trigonal-bipyramidal coordination geometry. In the crystal structure, the chains are linked by hydrogen bonds into a polymeric ribbon structure.

One water molecule is disordered.

The Mn(II) ion is coordinated in a distorted tetra-hedral environment by two N atoms of the phenanthroline ligand and two chloride ions. A half-occupancy solvent water mol-ecule lies on a mirror plane and close to an inversion center.
