Bis(diallyl-benzimidazolium) tetra-bromidocuprate(II).

ABSTRACT: The structure of the title ionic copper(II) compound, (C(13)H(15)N(2))(2)[CuBr(4)], is built up of isolated 1,3-diallyl-benzimidazolium cations and [CuBr(4)](2-) anions which are inter-connected by electrostatic inter-actions. Differences in packing of the heterocyclic cores results in a different structure compared with earlier investigated chloride and bromide analogues.

Project description:In the title compound, (C(11)H(15)N(2))(2)[HgBr(4)], the tetra-coordinated Hg(II) center of the complex anion adopts a distorted tetra-hedral geometry [Hg-Br = 2.5755 (8)-2.623 (11) Å and Br-Hg-Br = 103.78 (19)-116.4 (3)°]. One of the Br atoms is disordered over two sites [site-occupancy factors = 0.51 (6) and 0.49 (6)]. The N-C-N angles in the cations are 110.7 (6) and 111.4 (7)°. In the crystal packing, a supra-molecular chain is formed via both weak inter-molecular C-H⋯Br hydrogen bonds and π-π aromatic ring stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid separation = 3.803 (1) Å].

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Zn(C(12)H(11)N(2)O(4))(2)(H(2)O)(4)]·4H(2)O, contains one-half of the complex mol-ecule and two uncoordin-ated water mol-ecules. The four water O atoms in the equatorial plane around the Zn(II) centre ( symmetry) form a distorted square-planar arrangement, while the distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry is completed by the O atoms of the zwitterionic 2-methyl-benzimidazolium-1,3-diacetate ligands in the axial positions. The benzimidazole ring system is planar, with a maximum deviation of 0.041 (3) Å. Intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding results in the formation of a non-planar six-membered ring. In the crystal structure, strong intra- and inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into a three-dimensional network. π-π contacts between benzimidazole rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.899 (1) Å] may further stabilize the structure.

Project description:The title compound, (C(5)H(14)N(2))[CuBr(4)], was synthesized by hydro-thermal reaction of CuBr(2) with 1-methyl-piperazine in an HBr/water solution. Both amine N atoms are protonated. The Cu-Br distances in the tetrahedral anion are in the range 2.3809?(11)-2.4131?(11)?Å. In the crystal, moderately strong and weak inter-molecular N-H?Br hydrogen bonds link the anion and cation units into an infinite two-dimensional network parallel to the ab plane.

Project description:In the title compound, [Co(C(12)H(11)N(2)O(4))(2)(H(2)O)(4)]·4H(2)O, the Co(II) atom lies on an inversion center and is octa-hedrally coordinated by six O atoms from four water mol-ecules and two monodentate zwitterionic 2-methyl-benzimidazolium-1,3-diacetate ligands. An intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond occurs. In the crystal, inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into a three-dimensional network. π-π inter-actions between the imidazole and benzene rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.9031 (17) Å] consolidate the crystal packing.

In the crystal, the cations, anions and water mol-ecules inter-act via N-H⋯O, O-H⋯Br and N-H⋯Br hydrogen bonds, forming chains parallel to the b axis. The chains are further linked by O-H⋯Br hydrogen bonds into layers parallel to the bc plane.

Project description:The isostructural title compounds, {(C7H7N2)2[SnI4]} n , (1), and {(C7H5F2N2)2[SnI4]} n , (2), show a layered perovskite-type structure composed of anionic {[SnI4](2-)} n sheets parallel to (100), which are decorated on both sides with templating benzimidazolium or 5,6-di-fluoro-benzimidazolium cations, respectively. These planar organic heterocycles mainly form N-H⋯I hydrogen bonds to the terminal I atoms of the corner-sharing [SnI6] octa-hedra (point group symmetry 2) from the inorganic layer, but not to the bridging ones. This is in contrast to most of the reported structures of related compounds where ammonium cations are involved. Here hydrogen bonding to both types of iodine atoms and thereby a distortion of the inorganic layers to various extents is observed. For (1) and (2), all Sn-I-Sn angles are linear and no out-of-plane distortions of the inorganic layers occur, a fact of relevance in view of the material properties. The arrangement of the aromatic cations is mainly determined through the direction of the N-H⋯I hydrogen bonds. The coherence between organic bilayers along [100] is mainly achieved through van der Waals inter-actions.

Project description:The bonds in the five-membered ring of the title hydrated salt, C(14)H(17)N(2) (+)·Br(-)·2H(2)O, are delocalized. The cation lies on a special position of m site symmetry such that the mirror plane passes through the imidazol-yl-methyl bond and is perpendicular to the plane of the cation. The anion lies on another special position of 2 site symmetry. The anion and uncoordinated water mol-ecule are linked into a chain by O-H?O hydrogen bonds. One of the water O atoms is disordered over two sites of equal occupancy.
