Project description:The title compound, C(15)H(18)O(3), was isolated from Lacta-rius piperatus (Fr.) S. F. Gary collected from the Kunming area in Yunnan province, China. The central cyclo-hexyl ring adopts a chair conformation, while the furan-one ring is close to planar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.0174 Å). The remaining methyl-ene cyclo-hexene ring has a flattened chair conformation. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked via inter-molecular O-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into zigzag chains along the a axis.

Project description:The bicyclic mol-ecule of the title compound, C(9)H(12)O(3), contains two five-membered rings with different functional groups, viz. a ketone and an ester. Both rings assume an envelope conformation. The mean planes of these functional groups form a dihedral angle of 60.7?(1)°. The crystal structure exhibits weak inter-molecular C-H?O inter-actions, which link the mol-ecules into zigzag chains extended in the [010] direction. The unit cell contains a racemic mixture of enanti-omers.

In the crystal, two hy-droxy groups are involved in the formation of intra- and inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds. The H atoms in these groups are split, with site-occupation factors of 0.5. The mean plane, calculated through all non-H atoms of the mol-ecule, except for the central CH2 atoms of the cyclo-hexene ring, which deviate by 0.340?(3) and -0.369?(3)?Å from this mean plane, has an r.m.s. deviation of 0.012?Å. In the crystal, there are C-H?? contacts present, resulting in the formation of zigzag chains propagating along the [010] direction.
