A new polymorph of N-phenyl-phthalimide.

ABSTRACT: During an attempt to prepare a cocrystal of N-phenyl-phthalimide, C(14)H(9)NO(2), with N-(2,3,4,5,6-penta-fluoro-phen-yl)phthalimide, a new ortho-rhom-bic polymorph of the first component was obtained. This new form has Z' = 0.5 and the mol-ecule is located around a twofold axis, whereas in the previously reported polymorph (space group Pbca), the mol-ecule has no crystallographically imposed symmetry. Pairs of C-H?O inter-actions between inversion-related phthalimide units arrange mol-ecules into tapes that are further assembled into (010) layers via stacking inter-actions between phthalimide fragments [inter-planar distance = 3.37?(5)?Å].

Project description:THE TITLE COMPOUND [SYSTEMATIC NAME: 2-(4-meth-oxy-benz-yl)-isoindoline-1,3-dione], C(16)H(13)NO(3), represents a triclinic polymorph of the previously reported monoclinic form [Warzecha et al. (2006 ▶). Acta Cryst. E62, o5450-o5452]. The reaction of potassium phthalimide and 4-meth-oxy-benzyl chloride in dimethyl-formamide gave platelet-shaped crystals; these were harvested and then needle-shaped crystals were deposited. The platelet- and needle-shaped crystals correspond to the triclinic and monoclinic forms, respectively. The N-C-C(ar)-C(ar) torsion angles between the ring systems are -82.66 (14) and 95.28 (13)°, resulting in a roof-shaped conformation. In the crystal, mol-ecules are accumulated by offset face-face π-π inter-actions between phthalimide units [centroid-centroid distances = 3.640 (2) and 3.651 (2) Å], with inter-planar distances of 3.321 (1) and 3.435 (1) Å. Weak inter-molecular C(ar-yl)-H⋯O=C and C(alk-yl)-H⋯O=C contacts form C(8) and C(11) infinite chain motifs, respectively.

(2R)-2-Benzene-sulfonamido-2-phenyl-ethanoic acid: a new monoclinic polymorph.

Project description:In the title compound, C(14)H(13)NO(4)S, a sulfonamide derivative of phenyl glycine, the aromatic rings are inclined at a dihedral angle of 28.03?(12)°. In the crystal, O-H?O hydrogen bonds link the molecules into chains propagating in [100] and a weak C-H?O interaction cross-links the chains in the c-axis direction. In the previously published polymorph, the dihedral angle between the aromatic rings is 45.52?(18)° and the structure is stabilized by three different types of ring motif.

A new monoclinic polymorph of 1,1'-bis-(di-phenyl-thio-phosphor-yl)ferrocene.

Project description:The title compound, [Fe(C17H14PS)2], is a second monoclinic polymorph (P21/c, with Z' = 1) of the previously reported monoclinic (C2/c, with Z' = 1/2) form [Fang et al. (1995 ▸). Polyhedron, 14, 2403-2409]. In the new form, the S atoms lie to the same side of the mol-ecule with the pseudo S-P⋯P-S torsion angle being -53.09 (3)°. By contrast to this almost syn disposition, in the C2/c polymorph, the Fe atom lies on a centre of inversion so that the S atoms are strictly anti, with a pseudo-S-P⋯P-S torsion angle of 180°. The significant difference in mol-ecular conformation between the two forms does not result in major perturbations in the P=S bond lengths nor in the distorted tetra-hedral geometries about the P atoms. The crystal packing of the new monoclinic polymorph features weak Cp-C-H⋯π(phen-yl) inter-actions consolidating linear supra-molecular chains along the a axis. These pack with no directional inter-actions between them.

Crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of new polymorph of racemic 2-phenyl-butyramide.

Project description:A new polymorph of the title compound, C10H13NO, was obtained by recrystallization of the commercial product from a water/ethanol mixture (1:1 v/v). Crystals of the previously reported racemic and homochiral forms of 2-phenyl-butyramide were grown from water-aceto-nitrile solution in 1:1 volume ratio [Khrustalev et al. (2014 ▸). Cryst. Growth Des. 14, 3360-3369]. While the previously reported racemic and enanti-opure forms of the title compound adopt very similar supra-molecular structures (hydrogen-bonded ribbons), the new racemic polymorph is stabilized by a single N-H⋯O hydrogen bond that links mol-ecules into chains along the c-axis direction with an anti-parallel (centrosymmetric) packing in the crystal. Hirshfeld mol-ecular surface analysis was employed to compare the inter-molecular inter-actions in the polymorphs of the title compound.

Crystal structure of 2,4-di-nitro-phenyl 4-methyl-benzene-sulfonate: a new polymorph.

Project description:The title compound, C13H10N2O7S, was synthesized via a nucleophilic substitution reaction between 2,4-di-nitro-phenol and p-toluene-sulfonyl chloride. This crystal structure is a polymorph of CSD entry WUVYUH [Vembu et al. (2003). Acta Cryst, E59, o378-380]. The aromatic substituents on the sulfonate group are oriented gauche to one another with a C-O-S-C torsion angle of -62.0 (3)°. The supra-molecular features that contribute to the crystal stability are offset π-π [centroid-centroid distance = 3.729 (2) Å] and multiple C-H⋯O inter-actions.

A polymorph of 2,4-dinitro-phenyl-hydrazine.

Project description:The crystal structure of a previously unreported polymorph (form II) of 2,4-dinitro-phenyl-hydrazine (DNPH), C6H6N4O4, was determined at 90?K. The first polymorph (form I) is described in the monoclinic space group P21/c [Okabe et al. (1993 ?). Acta Cryst. C49, 1678-1680; Wardell et al. (2006 ?). Acta Cryst. C62, o318-320], whereas form II is in the monoclinic space group Cc. The mol-ecular structures in forms I and II are closely similar, with the nitro groups at the 2- and 4-positions being almost coplanar with the benzene ring [dihedral angles of 3.54?(1) and 3.38?(1)°, respectively in II]. However, their packing arrangements are completely different. Form I exhibits a herringbone packing motif, whereas form II displays a coplanar chain structure. Each chain in form II is connected to adjacent chains by the inter-molecular inter-action between hydrazine NH2 and 2-nitro groups, forming a sheet normal to (101). The sheet is stabilized by N-H?? inter-actions.

1-(5-Hydr-oxy-3-methyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)ethanone: a new monoclinic polymorph.

Project description:The title compound, C(12)H(12)N(2)O(2), crystallized in the monolinic space group P2(1)/n, with two independent mol-ecules (A and B) in the asymmetric unit. This is in contrast to the first monoclinic polymorph reported [Cingolani et al. (2002 ?). Inorg. Chem.41, 1151-116], which crystallized in the space group C2/c with one independent mol-ecule per asymmetric unit. The dihedral angles between the two rings differ slightly; in mol-ecule A it is 4.90?(11)° and in mol-ecule B it is 16.05?(13)°. In both mol-ecules, there is an intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bond involving the hydroxyl substituent and the carbonyl O atom of the adjacent acetyl group. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules A and B are linked via a C-H?N inter-action. There are also some weak C-H?? inter-actions involving the phenyl ring of mol-ecule A and H atoms of the acetyl groups of both mol-ecules.

Tribenzoatobismuth(III): a new -polymorph.

Project description:A new polymorph (?) was obtained for an active pharmaceutical ingredient, bis-muth tribenzoate, [Bi(C(6)H(5)CO(2))(3)]. The new ?-polymorph is 1.05 times denser than the previously known polymorph [Rae et al. (1998 ?). Acta Cryst. B54, 438-442]. In the ?-polymorph, the Bi atom is linked with three benzoate anions, each of them acting as a bidentate ligand, and these assemblies with C(3) point symmetry can be considered as 'mol-ecules'. The structure of the ?-polymorph has no polymeric chains, in contrast to the previously known polymorph. The 'mol-ecules' in the ?-polymorph are stacked along [001], so that the phenyl rings of the neighbouring mol-ecules are parallel to each other. Based on the pronounced difference in the crystal structures, one can suppose that two polymorphs should differ in the dissolution kinetics and bioavailability.

A new high-pressure polymorph of phosphoric acid.

Project description:The high-pressure structural behaviour of phosphoric acid is described. A compression study of the monoclinic phase, using neutron powder diffraction and X-ray single-crystal diffraction, shows that it converts to a previously unobserved orthorhombic phase on decompression. Compression of this new phase is reported up to 6.3?GPa. The orthorhombic phase is found to be more efficiently packed, with reduced void space, resulting in a larger bulk modulus. Molecule–molecule interaction energies reveal a more extensive network of increased attractive forces in the orthorhombic form relative to the monoclinic form, suggesting greater thermodynamic stability.

A new polymorph of 5-nitro-uracil monohydrate.

Project description:In the title compound, C(4)H(3)N(3)O(4)·H(2)O, mol-ecules of 5-nitro--uracil are hydrogen bonded in pairs across crystallographic centers of symmetry. The resulting dimers are also hydrogen bonded to the water mol-ecules, forming a three-dimensional network. The pyrimidine ring is almost planar (with a maximum deviation of 0.0156?(9)?Å for the one of the N atoms) and the nitro group is rotated by 12.4?(1)° out of the uracil plane, while in the other polymorph the value for the same angle is 5°.
