4-(Dimethyl-amino)pyridinium tribromide: whole mol-ecule disorder of cation and anion.

ABSTRACT: In the title salt, C(7)H(11)N(2) (+)·Br(3) (-), the cation and the near-linear anion [Br-Br-Br = 179.41?(8)°] both show whole-mol-ecule disorder about crystallographic twofold rotation axes. The cation is weakly hydrogen-bonded to the anion by an N-H?Br inter-action. The crystal studied was found to be a racemic twin, with a twin component of nearly 50%.

Project description:In the title salt, C(7)H(11)N(2) (+)·Br(3) (-), the essentially planar cation (r.m.s. deviation = 0.006 Å) forms an N-H⋯Br hydrogen bond to one of the Br atoms of the almost linear anion [Br-Br-Br = 179.31 (2)°]. The crystal studied was found to be a racemic twin. The whole-mol-ecule disorder of the cation and anion about a twofold rotation axis described earlier [Ng (2009). Acta Cryst. E65, o1276] is an artifact of halving one of the axes of the ortho-rhom-bic unit cell.

Project description:In the title compound, C(7)H(11)N(2) (+)·C(7)H(5)O(2) (-), the 2-amino-4,6-dimethyl-pyridinium cation and the benzoate anion are linked by two N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming an R(2) (2)(8) ring motif. The H atoms in both the methyl groups are rotationally disordered, with fixed site occupancies of 0.50. In the crystal structure, the mol-ecules are stabilized by inter-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. A π-π inter-action, with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.661 (2) Å, is also observed.

Project description:In the crystal of the title Schiff base compound, C13H9ClN2O2, [CNBA; systematic name: (E)-N-(4-chloro-phen-yl)-1-(4-nitro-phen-yl)methanimine], the CNBA mol-ecule shows whole-mol-ecule disorder (occupancy ratio 0.65:0.35), with the disorder components related by a twofold rotation about the shorter axis of the mol-ecule. The aromatic rings are inclined to each other by 39.3 (5)° in the major component and by 35.7 (9)° in the minor component. In the crystal, C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds predominate in linking the major components, while weak C-H⋯Cl inter-actions predominate in linking the minor components. The result is the formation of corrugated layers lying parallel to the ac plane. The crystal packing was analysed using Hirshfeld surface analysis and compared with related structures.

Project description:In the title compound, C(7)H(11)N(2) (+)·C(7)H(7)O(3)S(-), the cation is protonated at the N atom of the heterocyclic ring. The dimethyl-amino group lies close to the pyridinium ring plane with a dihedral angle between the pyridinium and the dimethyl-amine CNC planes of 3.82?(17)°. The N-C bond linking the dimethyl-amino substituent to the pyridinium ring is characteristically short [1.3360?(19)?Å], suggesting some delocalization in the cation. Three Cl atoms of the [ZnCl(4)](2-) tetra-hedron act as acceptors in N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds. The hydrogen bonds, both of which are bifurcated, lead to the formation of a three-dimensional network. Within the network, inter-molecular π-π stacking inter-actions with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.5911 (7) Å arrange the 4-(dimethyl-amino)-pyridinium cations into anti-parallel dimers.
